Donating YT 4000 Club Member | More Raw Diet questions For those of you who feed a raw diet, how do you find it compares to the cost of a good quality kibble? I've looked at Primal, Honest Kitchen and another brand where I usually buy food and it seems to me that it's quite cost prohibitive when you have multiple dogs. Then there is really raw...just pieces of chicken, beef etc. My DH is grossed out by the idea of that, so it's probably a no go for our house. For those that do it, how do you find it compares in cost? I've looked at the feeding calculators and the amount they recommend eating just seems so low. I can't imagine that it would be enough to keep Rhett, and especially Scarlett, happy. Do you supplement with veggies or other things? If I do decide to go with a raw diet I have read conflicting directions. Some sites say to go 100% raw, others recommend a rotation of raw and kibble. How do you decide which way to go?

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Way back when I started, I was comparing costs and found that a quality kibble isn't all that much cheaper than premade raw. Maybe slightly, but not prohibitively that much. I have 3 dogs, and I agree though...it does get pricey with more dogs, esp if you have larger dogs. I think prey model can sometimes be cheaper if you can source it correctly. The servings actually aren't much different than kibble. If you put down a true serving of kibble and a serving of raw - they usually are about the same amount...raw 'looks' smaller though bc it's all mushed together, whereas kibble is spread out and appears as though it's a larger serving. I don't supplement, but I do give chews a few times a week for teeth. But you could give veggies. There is no right or wrong in terms of doing just raw, just kibble, or rotating. I do just raw, rather than rotating.

| My guys eat Canine Caviar kibble in the am. Momo is the only one that gets it moistened bc he doesn't chew anymore. They get premade raw for dinner. This works well for us...for now. I would like to feed them premade raw for both their meals, but I want to see what their next check up will be like, then I'll decide then if I want to feed it for both meals. So far very good, firm small poopies. It has helped Princess & Momo tremendously, they have allergies & yeast, was so miserably itchy & licked their paws all the time. I've seen 90-95% improvement. The best part, it was w/no meds, sprays, rx shampoos, things we've all tried in the past w/no real help. It was kinda tricky finding which protein & Brand works well w/ea individual dog, for me. Turbo is intolerant of beef, so he can't have beef. He's also intolerant of pumpkin (makes him vomit), so he couldn't have any primal formulas bc it has pumpkin seeds in it except venison. So he primarily eats OC Raw Dog. Princess & Turbo was allergic to chicken or something in Nature's Variety premade raw, it gave them soft-runny poopies. I thought they couldn't tolerate the higher fat or possibly even the higher protein in raw or some other ingredient in their formulas. But then we tried OC Raw Dog & Primal rabbit & their poopies were nice & firm! So it's trial & error (for us), GL w/whatever you choose.

| When I 1st transitioned them to premade raw, I added some to their kibble, like a toppper. Did that over a period of 4-5 days, they were fine. I just followed the directions on the food company's instructions. I also used freeze dried raw.
