Then there is really raw...just pieces of chicken, beef etc. My DH is grossed out by the idea of that, so it's probably a no go for our house. For those that do it, how do you find it compares in cost?
I've looked at the feeding calculators and the amount they recommend eating just seems so low. I can't imagine that it would be enough to keep Rhett, and especially Scarlett, happy. Do you supplement with veggies or other things?
If I do decide to go with a raw diet I have read conflicting directions. Some sites say to go 100% raw, others recommend a rotation of raw and kibble. How do you decide which way to go? |
When I switched my old poodle to raw, it was 100%. If you mix the two, the kibble has to spend more time in the digestive tract digesting and they need to get the raw processed right away. Go straight raw, you will be happy you did. My ole girl lived several more years than she would have if I continued the kibble. If she seemed hungry at times I would give her frozen green beans to munch on. Depending on your area, I bet you could find a distributor of raw grind that is cheaper than the pet store stuff and more nutrient rich.
