| do you carry Pet insurance? I was wondering how many members here carry insurance on their dogs. If so.. What insurance do you carry? Is their one that's better than another? Is it worth it to have insurance? TIA Dennis |

| For my husband and I it is just not economical to have Pet Insurance. We have 3 dogs and 2 cats and the monthly payment is horrendous. We have 2 credit cards and a savings account just pet emergencies... |

| I wanted to know about this as well. Unexpected injuries or illness can come up and boy are those vet bills can get quite costly!

| I guess there are several different types that are Avail? Yeah, Some are a little expensive. Like the plan that the AKC offers. We were looking at another plan that cost around $350.00 for the year. Within the next month - month 1/2 "Chance" will be getting neutered Our Vet fee will be $350 for the procedure, Now my friends vet only charges $150 for it, But I think his vet does several dogs at a time and that may be why its soo cheap. I'd rather have OUR vet do it because it'll be One-on-one. and not like a cattle car of dogs getting neutered at once. And his Vet is a very well known Vet. But Damn $350. lol anyways, The reason I was thinking about it is, I'd like to be safe than sorry if something should happen. I've read through posts where several members babies have become sick for one reason or another and find themselves struggling to pay Vet fee's or are unable to have their babies treated because they we'll just cant afford the price of the vet fee's... I know it's pretty sad that Many people don't have health insurance for themselves. Myself included and I'm a General Contractor.. I'm just lucky for now, that I'm a pretty healthy guy. I'd like to hear your thoughts on Pet Insurance if you have it and think it's worth it |

I can understand, do they offer a "Family/Group" plan? I'm sure it can get expensive rather quickly with several pets. | |

| I have pet insurance for both of my dogs. In most cases it covers 80% of the vet bill. In total I pay €44 monthly (€24 for Nena and €20 for Rufus)

| Personally I think it is a wast of money and you are better of putting what you can afford every month into an account. My dog also already has many preexisting conditions so its worthless for me. Plus you have to come up with the money up front anyway and then the insurance reimburses you.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I have Insurance and wouldn't be without it. The key to Insurance, is enroll when they are young. I enrolled Taycie when she was 5 months old. I have 0 preexisting conditions. Not everyone wants a policy like I have. I went through Trupanion. I wanted something that covers the big expensive scary things. I also needed bang for my buck as I am on a fixed income. In the few short 3 years I have payed in around $1500. My premiums have been different depending on the year... However, I have gotten back $6,000 and counting. There simply would be no way for me to have that kind of money for catastrophic vet care. But, because I want the best for her, and the best vet care possible I went with Insurance. I also could not put that amount on a Credit Card and pay it off in a decent time, or have a savings account replenished in a timely manner, and hope that nothing horrible happens in the meantime. It also can be very expensive to maintain a dog with an illness... Vet costs add up. QUICK.. In October last year was when I was very glad I had it. Taycie was VERY sick.. between numerous trips to the vet, ER vet, Hospitalization stay, feeding tube placement, exploratory surgery.. Her grand total was $4710.66. This happened in 1 month! Say I had been putting aside $50 a month from the time I decided to enroll her I would only have roughly around $1200 saved if I was lucky enough I never touched it. That's not even close. For us Insurance has been great, and not a waste of money. It's payed for itself and will continue too. Best thing I ever did. I will not own a dog without it.

| We have Trupanion (Canada) for our Enzo, enrolled him when he was 7 months old - No pre-existing anything. We pay $50. a month, which is one of the more expensive ones in Canada, however, it has coverage for genetic/heriditary illness & no limit. It was a no brainer for us...Even if we saved the $50. a month or $600 a year, if something were to happen that amount saved would not be nearly enough to cover the costs. True, you have to come up with the money upfront, which you would have to anyway without the insurance, but getting 90% BACK is what helps me sleep at night. I think it is totally worth it for our little man...its the same reason we have house or car insurance.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I had PetPlan for Pfeiffer's first couple years. I recently started all 3 of my kiddos on plans with Healthy Paws. Wouldn't be without it. Didn't used to believe in insurance, but I now do.

| I just bought Embrace for my two young boys. After the weird things I've experienced over the last 13 years with my older dogs, I know that even with preexistings I'll get my money's worth. I don't ever think insurance is a "waste of money" as some have said, but I think you need to be strategic and pick a policy that will work for you and which makes sense. For me, a small policy with a high deductible and low monthly premium works best. I save money as I can, but I sure would rather use it for my own enjoyment rather than drain it over and over again on unexpected or costly dog bills.

| We carry Pet Plan on one dog. We wised up after going broke from our older girl. Setting money aside in an account can work. If you don't have enough when that $5000 injury or illness comes along then obviously it did not work for you. Yes, you do pay up front. So the question is, if I lay out $5-10k on a bill can I afford to not be reimbursed? For me the answer is no. I see animals euthanized all the time over money. Not fun. Even an old dog's arthritis meds can be $45+ a month. There is no way I will have dogs without insurance now.
