YT 2000 Club Member | My husband keeps our yard treated for ticks and I use frontline spray for fleas if needed. This works for us.

BANNED! | I was told today that ticks in our area are a big problem right now. I would not use a flea/tick collar on a small dog. My vet today suggested advantix because it repels also, but I bathe my pup a lot so then they recommended frontline because it doesn't wash off. I would use one of these flea/tick meds that fits ur dogs. They are fairly cheap & less harmful then a collar. Last edited by Beth Boofa; 05-21-2013 at 08:39 PM. |

| I'm not a big fan of collar... I think I heard/read in passing that collars being so close to the nose/snout, that it can be harmful to the dogs. I use Advantix II with some home remedy spray. No problems so far. |

I choose it because in summer I would shower him very often like every five day, especially july and august, in Italy it's very hot and can reach 40 celcius (I don't know in farenheit). So, if I use liquid drop, I'm worried it might go away soon after I shower him too often. With collar, I hv the freedom to take it off anytime I shower him. And I honestly use also the bayer anti flea shower foam from Mid april to mid oct, just for additional strategy. Then I will use normal shampoo from oct-april. I think it works in my case, depends on the effectiveness of the collar type I suppose

But maybe next year I would try the liquid drops, and surely always advantix, I think advantix from bayer is the normal recommended one, even from the vets here.
