Are Animals like Birds, and Frogs good for my yorkie?

Just an F.Y.I. in case your not joking, my dog "caught" an Opossum once, didn't eat it but it died, so did my dog. Turns out the neighbors put out rat bait for Opossums, rats etc., unfortunately, my dog got the residual affect. Enough to scare ya yet? If so, maybe you should muzzle or keep your dog somewhere where he can't get to road kill etc., eiyieyieyie...Good luck!

Lol all you nutsy friends!. Please you have to train any breed of dog not to pick up any food from the ground!!!! You start young with the puppy. Exchange treat. Try in your backyard - drop a nice piece of chicken, then be ready. Say a strong no; if pup leaves alone, reward, reward with higher value treats' like cheese, or beef or some such.

We don't live in the country but city; and in some ways that can be worse, as we have some sicko folks who love to go around setting out poison bait for dogs.

And truly while I don't believe many YOrkies are as delicate as all get out; but I don't even let my 120lb BRT eat ANYTHING from the ground.
Until you can train your Yorkie to leave alone frogs and birds, truly you need a leash on them.

I have thugs for neighbors....no, ACTUAL REAL LIFE THUGS...father is a cop...and these kids can NOT be trusted to act civilized...EACH WITH A RAP SHEET A MILE LONG.......they got angry with me for SOME REASON....(a neighbor saw them shooting at passing cars, from their roof and reported it) I guess they thought it was me, so THEY DROPPED FISH HOOKS ALL OVER MY SIDE YARD SO MY PRECIOUS LITTLE INNOCENT BABIES WOULD GET INTO ALL THOSE HOOKS...TREBLE HOOKS, NO LESS....Thank God I ALWAYS walk around my yard, checking for poison meat, or holes under the fence so they get out, etc....I found the hooks before I let my dogs out....I still have nightmares over that...32 treble(??sp) fish hooks and 5 large lures with three sets of hooks on each one.....WRETCHED HOODLUM BAS......

OMG, Yorkiemom1! Your neighbors are my ultimate nightmare! Is there any way you could invest in a security camera system, so you could video those a**es? People like that make me want to put in a "Barbarian Security System" (you know-like the commercial for the credit card?) and give them a taste of their own medicine! Maybe the Cop Dad should open his eyes a little!

At our old house, we lived by a canal where occasionally, when it's the season and the weather is just right, our lawn becomes infiltrated with numerous tiny frogs...well, maybe toads. Either way, our dogs would have a field day during time chasing them around. We were pretty anal about them not eating these little guys since we didn't know if they were poisonous or anything...and well, you never know given contamination+pesticides. Better safe than sorry?

Better than the bumblebees my yorkiepoo is hellbent on eating. Thankfully he has not yet been successful, but he has caught two of them. Sigh.

Ziva caught a frog when she was a puppy- within seconds she was foaming at the mouth and quivering- there was no rushing to the vet she was either going to make it or not. We flushed with a hose and held on tight- Thankfully she hadn't bitten down. I keep everything swept and am constantly on critter patrol.

Hi welcome to yt..I'm curious to how they're catching all these birds, i'd be worried about parasites and disease they might be carrying. See if you can teach the drop it command, it took a while for mine to learn it but it's really useful.
