Lol all you nutsy friends!. Please you have to train any breed of dog not to pick up any food from the ground!!!! You start young with the puppy. Exchange treat. Try in your backyard - drop a nice piece of chicken, then be ready. Say a strong no; if pup leaves alone, reward, reward with higher value treats' like cheese, or beef or some such.

We don't live in the country but city; and in some ways that can be worse, as we have some sicko folks who love to go around setting out poison bait for dogs.

And truly while I don't believe many YOrkies are as delicate as all get out; but I don't even let my 120lb BRT eat ANYTHING from the ground.
Until you can train your Yorkie to leave alone frogs and birds, truly you need a leash on them.
