Zhoie -- Neuro appt Tues. Zhoie started whining and even yelped when she went after her ball. It's like when she extents her neck down at times, there is pain. On 10/29 we had her at the VSC in VA, for what they believe is soft tissue injury. Had her back the following weekend, didn't see impovement. Vet gave her some Metcam-inflamation & Tramadol-pain. Last night she turned quickly, neck down for her ball and yelped out. VSC is sending us for Neur consult on Tues with Dr. Busch in Leesburg, VA. We need more in depth imaging and/or MRI. We need to know what is going on and help her. If she worsens, I will definitely take on for emergency visit in Leesburg prior to our appt. Please keep my girlie in your thoughts and prayers. |
'Reminder: Zhoie had that bad shoulder injury when she was a young pup on that side. Imaging shows nothing broken, severe trama. She got better, so make she has injured it again or it's something going on. What is dog temp suppose to be, I'm going to try to take hers. |
Normal doggie temp is 101 - 102.5 taken rectally. I am so sorry that sweet little Zhoie is in pain. Will keep her in my thoughts and prayers. |
Tena I am so sorry. Prayers for sweet Zhoie. |
Did anyone take an xray of her neck to make sure this isn't AAI? I would definitely ask about this with this symptom (cry out/yelp). |
Keeping Zhoie in our prayers... |
Poor Zhoie ... I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers. |

I'll say a prayer for sweet Zhoie. You are a GREAT momma for taking such good care of her and getting her seen by an expert. Hope it all goes well!! xoxoxo |
Will keep sweet Zhoie in our thoughts and prayers. |
'm sorry. I wrote the post and then took Zhoie outside. She poo'ed and it was diarrhea, when I wiped her, there was a bloody show. I grabbed her up and off to VA we went. They examined her and diagnosed pain/stess induced colitus. I could see she was in pain by her trembling. They want me to go back to giving the Tramadol for pain, prescribed Metronidazole Tiny Tab 25 mg every 12hrs for colitus. In the examine of her neck, she has full range movement in all directions, when she went to squeeze on the back of the neck (gently) you could see Zhoie tense. She didn't know if it was due to expected pain or not, but Zhoie show no actual sign of pain. She is aware it's when she runs and then reached down quickly for her ball, that she will yelp/whin. She doesn't want her to play, be on the floor, run, jump or be off leash up to the time we see Neur Tues. I'm now cooking boneless chicken & rice for her dinner. Keep praying and sending good thoughts for my baby, please. |

What kind of imaging was done? Was an XRAY of the neck done?? |
Yes, they told me it is hard to get the position/stillness they need for see what they want to see. Vet said those are considered a base line to go by. Neur-surgeon specialist is where we need to be. I just want Tues to get here fast. |
Hugs sent your way I will be thinking of you and your baby. Hopefully they can get to the bottom of what is going on. It is no fun to sit and count the hours until a specialist can see the little guys. Take care, and get some rest yourself. |
Thank you all for thinking of us and keeping Zhoie in your prayers. There simply is no heartache like seeing our babies not well. God love'em. |
I am keeping Zhoie in my prayers. I hope the specialist will be able to diagnose her and she gets to feeling better. Hugs to you and your little one. |
What does AAI mean, I would like to research it:confused: |
AAI= Atlantoaxial instability |
Also look at Chiari malformation. This is something an MRI would either rule in or out. Not sure of the symptoms there tho. |
BTW the MRI and spinal tap (if she needs it) is pretty non-invasive. Teddy had both last year - they intubated him and anesthetized him but he did great. The worst part of the MRI is the cost. I know that the waiting is torture, but you will hopefully have all your answers on Tuesday. |
Thank you Rhetts Mama & Barney107, I looked at them both. I'm very glad we are going to Neuro, I definitely want to find out what is going on and what we can do. |
