The issue is finding a qualified surgeon with experience with this particular surgery and on our little ones in my area. Linda (ladyjane) has been a life saver in the search. She is amazing....I knew nothing about this and to be faced with it, is overwhelming. |

I feel terrible. I haven't seen your thread until now, since it was in the health and diet section and I seldom go there. I've read through the whole thread and I'm sorry she's been diagnosed with AAI. I feel so bad for you and your lil girl having to go through this, but I know you will have the best of care for her. My heart goes out to you at this time and I'm sending prayers for her. |

One thing I just noted about them is that they have more neurologists at VA. |
Tena, Val, a member here, has a yorkie named Babybear and he has AAI. If you are interested, this is her Blog. She also has many posts and threads that she posted in the past on YT. TaylorMadeYorkies.com Blog: VAL & BABYBEAR-HIS STORY ON "AAI" |
Calling you. |
I guess I'm partial to Dr. Sisson at Angell but I know Boston is too far a hike. He made a great impression on me and is someone I would trust completely. He treats my Teddy, and he is a neurosurgeon, I could email him and ask him if he has an recommendations for someone in your area who has experience with AAI surgery in toy breeds. I don't know that he would give us an answer of someone but if you want me to try asking, I will. |

I don't have any experience with OSU or Maryland. They both could be options though. I'd just figure out who has the better success rate, really. Who has published on this particular problem (showing that they hold a special interest and are likely to be very good at what they do)? etc. No experience with Penn either. And MSU (besides being far) - not even sure they have a neuro. Also UT may not be too far from you. And depending on where you are in WV, there is also NCSU. Not to overwhelm you more, just more options. |
I'll email Sisson now for referrals and ask also about Angell and whether he does it too. |
I am so sad to read that your beautiful baby is so ill. Your love is very powerful, and it will help both of you to overcome what you will face with Zhoie's surgery. I know you will go to the ends of the earth to help your precious little girl. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. |
I'm so sad to hear this about Zhoie. I can't even imagine how frightened you are. I know you will find the best place possible for her and I am sure she could come through just fine. I know nothing about AAI but wanted to wish the best of luck. I will keep checking this thread for updates. Little Zhoie will be in my prayers tonight. |
Tena, I just wanted to let you know that I have Zhoie and you all in my fervent prayers every day. I am so glad that you are Zhoie's mommy and you are getting her the help she needs to be all better ((hugs)) |
Update on Zhoie - Say your prayers!!! Tena is on her way to NCSU with Zhoie. She will be there in less than an hour and a half where the team is waiting for Zhoie in the ER. The regular vet initiated the referral process today, but when Zhoie screamed out in pain a couple of times today, Tena called NCSU to see if the appointment could be expedited. When she told them what was going on, they said to come immediately, so they could medicate Zhoie for pain in the ER and get her seen by neurology on a faster track. NCSU has already called her while on route to find out where they are as they are waiting for Zhoie. Zhoie and her family need YT prayers! We will know tomorrow what the course of treatment will be for Zhoie. Tena is on her cell phone and it's hard to get it all typed out so she asked me to go ahead and update. |
Tena, Pat and Zhoie are in my thoughts and prayers. |
Miss Zhoie is in my thoughts and prayers. |

Praying for Zhoie and Tena! |
Update on my girl We just left the NCSU and left my girl there..I'm destroyed. She is in a intermediate condo suite, will have her neuro exam this morning. If all looks good for surgery...she will proceed to whatever testing is needed, i.e. recent bloodwork, possible CT Scan and whatever else the surgeon deems necessary. Surgeon will then call me by phone, as we just checked in to local motel, 5 minutes away, if that. If surgery is an option for her extent of the condition, it will be Thurs. I have to shower and lay down a little bit, been up since 6:00 yesterday morning. Will touch back later on with update. |
Tena, I'm sorry you had to go sooner than you expected. Zhoie is in the best of hands and I am keeping you all in my prayers. Good you are close by. Do try to get some rest. |
Thanks for the update, Tena. I am so sorry ... I now how frightened you must be. Know that all of us will be saying prayers for Zhoie. She is in great hands. Try to get some rest! |
Tena I am so sorry that it is happening so fast for you, but it sounds like Zhoie is under the best of care. I have her and you all in my prayers. I can only imagine what you are going through. ((hugs)) I know it will be hard to rest and sleep, but you will need to stay strong for that sweet little girl. |
