This depends on your dog, two of my dogs could eat a different food every day and never have tummy upset. But i have one who will get bad diarhea if he gets even a tiny bit of new food, or a new treat or something. So try this slowly first to be sure yours can handle it.

Hmm.. Latte has eaten fresh cooked fish and sweet potatoes/regular potatoes for years now. She's still a bit itchy and I have been trying to find a dog food that she likes that does not contribute to her allergies. I will look for Taste of the Wild. She tried the Limited Ingredient Diet from NB, but she wasn't too excited about it. She may be spoiled by Mommy's COoking. (I also make her own treats.)

Great thread!! Remember anything can contribute to the cause of eye gunk and tear stains. Yorkies are prone to watery eyes and food, treats, water, allergies, and pollen can be a cause. Something's that have helped mine are making sure they drink from a stainless steel bowl, and watching how they react to changes. My boys are on a raw diet and eat freeze dried raw treats but they get all kinds of goodies here and there. (Cheerios, carrots, cucumbers, apples etc) We were in NYC for 2 months and due to their water they had horrible, red, eye gunk!! It was nasty! 1 month after we got back to MI they were back to normal. I'm thinking it was the water and pollution changes. Be sure to wait atleast a month-2 months to see changes. I can change Snickers's treats and see eye gunk, it's frustrating!! Reesie has clear eye gunk right now which I am ok with. Better than the red gunk!! I am going to try the Gerber Water!! Thanks for the suggestion! Good luck on the food switch!! Viv

| I just recently changed food as well and Bogey and Pebbles who have always had eye boogers seemed to have gotten much better. For several years I had fed Natural Balance LB foods. Pebbles has a corn allergy and I thought she was doing well on the NB. But recently I have changed two things. First, I began to grow the hair between their eyes. It is now to the point that I can comb it down along the top of their muzzles and the other hair I can not up into a topknot. The second thing that I changed was their food and it was totally by "accident". I had always purchased the largest bag of NB and divided it into gallon size bags that I used to feed from. One day I went to grab another bag (my last) for dinner and woops~I had NONE! It was late and I was figured I would buy a can of wet food when I ran to Target. When I had my foster here a few years ago they would occasionally get a little so I knew they would be fine. But when I went to the store I noticed a food that I had never seen before (not that I ever looked) that was Limited Ingredient and Grain Free. I figured that I would give it a try~~~Purina Beyond ONE. I'm sure there will be some that think I'm insane for feeding a "grocery store" kibble but it was amazing to say the least what I saw over the next week. I was always (several times a week)picking up throw up or they would gag after eating the NB and that stopped immediately. Within a few days Bogey's eyes were so much better. I finished the small bag and they seemed to love it, no puking and my more eye gunk. So I am sticking with it and am on my second bag.

Sasha eats primal raw as well as Blue Buffalo Wilderness kibble. I do feed her some treats that have grain in them though but they're all holistic. She still gets the occasional eye booger here and there. Usually at least every other day I wipe around her eyes just to stay on top of it. It's nothing excessive that she gets though.
