| runny nose??? Hello! I am new to the website and a new yorkie owner. I've had Pookie for about two weeks, and it seems like the day after we got him he was, well, sick (if that's what he really is). He has kind of like a runny nose and I can't distinguish if he's sneezing or trying to clear his nose or what. He's only 3 1/2 months so I'm worried. The vet gave me some antibiotics, and he's been on them for a good week. I'm wondering if any of you have had a similar situation. Please help. |

| My Lil Bit did the same thing....at the first vet visit (day after getting her) the vet noticed the runny nose/sneezy thing but did not think it was anything to worry about......one week later Lil Bit had runny eyes and runny nose and the dried stuff on her face was sooo stinky!!!!! Took her back to vet....gave amoxicil (pink liquid) 2 x day until gone....also got some eye ointment 2 x day for 10 days....the runny eye/stinkiness has improved totally....but I still occ notice the wet/runny nose when I pick her up and hold her to my face.......Maybe just her little puppy thing....I don't think she is sick... But do contact vet if ANY respiratory symptoms develop ...persistant coughing.....runny eyes....poor appetite..... Let us know how she does! |

| Gracie is STILL fighting this! The vet says it's kennel cough, and she's taken two rounds of antibiotics to get rid of it and it's been well over 6 weeks! Last week she was feeling much better, only did the hacking/sneezing/coughing thing in the mornings. Now today, she's got a runny nose and watery eyes again! And very little appetite, I almost had to force feed her finally around 1:00 becuase she hadn't eaten since last night. I'm going to take her to the vet AGAIN! But they told me that it can take Yorkie's months to get rid of it, especially if they are around other dogs, and she is around them 24/7!

| Well I'm glad to hear that there's hope for my boy. I see that I'm not the only one strugling with this. He's going to see the vet tomorrow, so hopefully she will give me some closure on what he really has. He seems to be doing well besideds the runny nose and occasional coughing/sneezing. He has a big appetite and very playfull. Thanks for the feedback, and I'll let you know what the vet says! |

| I don't have any advice for you regarding the runny nose. I just wanted to say I love the name Pookie as it was a nickname I gave my yorkie, Jake, who I had to put down last November. He was my Pookie and I miss him dearly! Hope Pookie gets better.

| Cooper has the sneezes too! Our breeder sent him home with an antibiotic so that he would be protected from whatever he came into contact with, and the first 8 days he was with us, he was on the meds (albon) and doing well. Then we had an emergency last weekend and had to board him at the vet (he was 9 weeks old last weekend) for 2 days. While he was there he got his next puppy shot. We got him home on Monday and last night (Wednesday) I noticed that he was sneezing a lot. He's still eating well and running around like the hellion he is (ha ha), but I took him to the vet this morning and now we are on a round of Clavamox. He's good about taking medicines, though, thank goodness. Is it the cold weather making them get colds? What does everyone think? I think it's a combination of the cold weather and whatever he might have been exposed to at the vet's office. Christi |

| When I took my fur baby Gizmo to the vet the day after we got him this past October, he had Kennel Cough. Runny nose, & coughing. The vet gave him Chlorphenarimine for the runny nose and Albon Suspension for the cough. He was on the medicine for a week and it seemed that everything cleared up but within a week of finishing the meds he started coughing again. I called the vet and he said that sometimes the antibiotic kills some of the bacteria and leaves some behind. So, it seems to clear up and then once the antibiotic finishes they come back down with it. He gave him another antibiotic (Cefa Drops) for 10 days and he cleared right up. Knock on wood he's been doing well since.

| Well we went to the vet today and she told me to keep giving him Clavamox for another two weeks. He's been on them for about a week or so, and he hasn't showed much improvement. All the vet pretty much told me he had was kennel cough and runny nose. He sneezes a bit too. I just hope he gets over it soon because it hurts me to see him like this. He doesn't seem to mind though, he's running around and being silly! Well I hope your babies do better! Brenda |

| Yes, kennel cough can last for months. it is horrible to hear, but when they are over it, you sure know the difference........ toby had kennel cough and we gave him roitussin for it (no antibiotics because there was no secondary infection) as with any viral sicknesses it is kinda like a cold i guess.... another thing is that the VACCINATIONS FOR KENNEL COUGH DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT ALWAYS WORK...... just to clarify, there are several virus germs that need to be present to cause kennel cough guardin against one of these germs is OK, it may work , but there is always another germ to step up and take up the slack causing the kennel cough anyways again this is just so people are informed, i was horrified when i heard someone say that her dog can be around dogs that have kennel cough because her dog was vaccinated....... dont make the mistake this lady did (lol..... her dog got kennel cough ) |
