Donating YT 10K Club Member | ![]() What health testing has she done? That's a bigger concern than dew claws.

| ![]() Unfortunately, she didn't do any testing, but she does offer a health guarantee. She says the parents are both healthy... I will be taking her to the vet as soon as I get her.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | ![]() Not surprised, but there are biewer breeders who test their breeding pairs, the pups, and offer a health guarantee. Jus saying. Good luck with your puppy.

| ![]() It would not make me happy if a breeder didn't cut dew claws solely based on the price. If they had a good reason, I would listen to it and might even agree with it- but money is NOT a good reason not to be doing something.

| ![]() She didn't want to do it because her dogs that have dew claws never had a problem and just think it's inhumane to cut its "toe" off. I insisted and so now she has scheduled to get the puppy's dew claws removed, but I'm paying for the charge.

I have seen my vet do pups dew claws and tails and belive me the dew claw being removed is the least of the pain the pup will be experiencing by not having them done as a new born. (they did them with nail clippers) Done is just seconds. Now the tails are a totaly different thing altogether. Painful just watching! Dew claws can be very painful if caught up in a collar or chain or an accident. Who knows... I have seen it first hand and it was not a good experience for me or the dog.

| ![]() My baby is 8 months old and was going in for spaying, so I had her four dewclaws removed at the same time. Dew claws procedure alone was $150. |

| ![]() If the puppies are past the 5 day mark I would leave them. Usually in the vet office if we see a dog that has very loose dew claws we will reccomend them removed because they can catch on things but usually small dogs dew claws are very close to the skin and do not cause a problem. If they are older they have to be anesthetized and its a whole ordeal so it's better to leave them if they are already there unless they cause a problem.

| ![]() Mikki is one year old. When we got her she still had dew claws. My vet recommended taking them off. I think different vets recommend different things but mine suggested them being removed. We did it same time as spay. It cost me $90 extra for the removal of them. She liked at them for a day or two but now all is well. ![]()

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | ![]() We do dew claws on our puppies at 3 days old. I take the puppies with mama into the vet in their stroller--we don't wait in the waiting area--straight to the room. The vet checks mama for her milk (and checks her vaginal area for any bleeding problems) and may recommend supplements for mama at that time. The vet checks the puppies from top to bottom, looks inside mouths and ears, listens to heart and lungs. And then, he does the dew claws for which he charges me $5 a puppy. One last point, if there were problems with whelping, mama and the puppies are being seen for the second time. Or, if the puppies are too small or having any difficulties then we will forgo the dew claws. And yes, some breeders put together puppy packages. I do. But that is not the reason to choose a breeder. |
