apple cider vinegar

someone at the dog park told me about adding apple cider vinegar to the dog's drinking water. so i looked up some info. online about apple cider vinegar. sounds great. i already ordered a bottle, will try it on the doggies soon. (not sure if they'll like the taste)

"Apple cider vinegar (in its natural form from a health food store, not the pasteurized version from the grocery store) is a natural antibiotic, antiseptic, and deodorant; helps digestion and to remove tooth tartar; prevents tooth decay and hair loss (even mange), prevents and heals gum disease and skin problems; and will discourage fleas."

i also found the amt. you are supposed to add to their drinking water, but i need to find the link again. i will post that info. once i find the link.

if your yorkie has tear stain problems, apple cider vinegar might also help.

"You could continually wash away your dog's tear stains, but that affects only the result not the cause. Putting a teaspoon of natural apple cider vinegar per quart of water in your dog's water bowl can clear up most active yeast infections and prevent future infections. Apple cider vinegar tablets can be used if your dog refuses to drink the treated water. A dog's (and human's) system should be PH balanced (between acid and alkaline), and apple cider vinegar adds the acid that many of us are lacking."

Thank you for posting this. I've read where many say the ACV really works for their pets but I've never tried it. Now that I know the correct amount to give, I may give it a try.

I actually used to add ACV to Tatum's water (for quite a while) but then got out of the habit. I'm sure the benefits were there but just not something I saw drastically so I drifted away from it. It was on this forum that I read about the measurements and such. Thanks for bringing it up again.

ACV is great! There are so many benefits that have been attributed to it.

(I just need to get in the habit of using it on a regular basis)

This may be totally irrelevant, but I had a hamster one time that had blood in his urine, so I assume he had a UTI. Someone told me to put some apple cider vinegar in his water and when I did, it cleared up with in a couple days. I wonder if apple cider vinegar would have the same effect on dogs and help with their urinary tract too?

3 tablespoons to a qt. of water and use as a last rinse also keeps fleas off. I used Apple Cider Vingear with Alex as part of our treatment for allergies and a bad yeast infection he had related to his allergies. It wasn't the only thing we used, but I definitely think it helped clear up his yeast infection.

I am thinking I am wanting to try ACV tablets? Any thoughts on how much to give? I really am doubting Taycie will drink it in the water.. picky little twerp

i do not know how much ACV tablets you should give, i will look around and see if i can find that info. maybe someone reading this thread will have that info. as well. that would be great!

Apple Cider Vinegar for Dogs - Is it Safe for Dogs?

Apple cider vinegar, when used in appropriate amount, is safe for dogs with one exception - Dogs with a chronic yeast infection (Candida) or those with an overly acidic system or irritated intestines are not recommended. Vinegar is believed to reactivate or worsen these conditions.

There are numerous health benefits of ACV for dogs. The main ones are:

ACV is anti-bacterial and anti-fungal and it boosts the immune system. It improves stamina, increases resistance to diseases, prevents common infections, and is therefore helpful for dogs with weakened immune systems.

ACV normalizes the blood's acid alkaline balance and its potassium-rich ingredients remineralize the body. ACV breaks down calcium deposits in a dog's joints and remineralizes the bones, and as such it is beneficial for dogs with arthritis and joint problems such as hip dysplasia.

Apple cider vinegar can be used in various ways to treat dog health problems. Some common uses include:

General Detoxifier
Use ACV as a general detoxifier and a mild tonic. Long term use of ACV will make your dog more resistant to infections, as well as flea or worm infestations. Start by adding small amounts of ACV to your dog's drinking water and slowly building up to about 1 teaspoon of ACV per 15 pounds of body weight. Some dogs may not like the taste of vinegar in their water. If that's the case for your dog, mix ACV with his food, or mix it with a teaspoonful of raw honey.

Rinse for Skin Problems
Use ACV as an after-shampoo rinse if your dog has skin problems such as allergies, fleas, or ringworm.
To make the vinegar rinse: Add 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to a quart of water. Use it once a week as an after-shampoo rinse. Remember not to rinse off the ACV - just towel your dog dry.

Flea Repellent Spray
You can also prepare a spray by simply using 50% apple cider vinegar and 50% water. Use a spray bottle and spray your dog's coat after his daily walks, and you can use it to spray his bedding as well.
