| How to remove a tick/lyme disease info? Jackson has a small tick right UNDER his arm... like in his armpit. The worst place possible. I thought these little suckers were gone by now, but I guess I have to start up the K9 Advantix or Frontline again. My step-dad was home when I noticed so of course I ask him for help, I *hate* ticks. He removes most of it with tweezers (the body, etc) but the head is definitely still in there... he had to leave for work, and now I don't know what to do, LOL. I can't get the head out and I don't wanna make it worse. It's already looking kind of sore and red. Last time he had a tick, I just took him into the vet... but I'd prefer not to stress him out again if not needed and save the $15 they charged me. He already had Lymes disease though so I guess I need to be precautious. My question is -- since he already tested positive for Lymes last year, and was treated with antibiotics, would he test positive again if I gave him a test? I've heard the test will always come back positive... I'm still not quite sure I understand how lymes works. Anyways... help! lol. Should I just take him to the vet? I guess I could make the 35 minute drive to the clinic where he got neutered and gets his rabies shots, etc, rather than the freakin' expensive place 5 mins. from my house. Then I could get the lymes test, maybe heartworm test while I'm there, and purchase flea/tick stuff at a good price...

| I've seen a tick removal tool that they sell at our vet's office. I've never seen a tick on any of mine but people say that tool works. I would personally just remove the tick and then I would take it to the vet for confirmation of type of tick. If you have not had him on HW meds, I would test for HW. I'd go with their recommendations on lyme. Going forward, I'd consider using frontline monthly and definitely HW.

| Awww... poor pup! As you know I am in MD too. Close to Rockville and Bethesda. My vet told me to not stop the K9 Advantix and to use it all year. So I do. No little critters on my little critters! Knock on wood. As far as the head if it is a big piece I would take him to the vet or try to pull it yourself. I use the little spoon with the slit when I have to pull one. Put some alcohol and then Neosporin on it. (My dh's dog had ticks I pulled ff a few time when she was on Frontline...before we were married) I am mean...I would have put the K9 Advantix on it and killed it (evil laugh). Ticks suck!!!! YUCK! PS My vet matches the price of Dr.s Foster Smith so I get a great price

| Thanks guys I ended up just taking him in and I bought a 6 month supply of the Frontline and 6 month supply of Iverheart for heartworms. I went ahead and asked for a lyme/heartworm test and all came back negative! Yay! So from now on, I guess we're just going to have to continue these meds yearround.

| Glad to hear the tick is gone and that the test results were good.

| How to Remove a Tick: Safely Removing Ticks from Dogs, Cats and other Pets for ticks Chiggers in dogs for chiggers. I do remember using the clear nail polish. For Leeches, we used to use a lite cigarette, or when lighting a smoke was out of the question, a knife. Ah, the good times! |
