I've seen a tick removal tool that they sell at our vet's office. I've never seen a tick on any of mine but people say that tool works.

I would personally just remove the tick and then I would take it to the vet for confirmation of type of tick.

If you have not had him on HW meds, I would test for HW. I'd go with their recommendations on lyme. Going forward, I'd consider using frontline monthly and definitely HW.
