Revolution anyone? I'm SO confused when it comes to deworming for heartworms, fleas, etc. My vet just recommended me this for my 12 week puppies, and I was wondering if it is safe to use. Would I need to use this monthly for the rest of their lives? Or are there other products that I should be using instead? It shows on my records that my breeders used Pryantel and Panacur to deworm but I have no idea what this is either and its difference from Revolution. They took in stool sample and the results will come out tomorrow, but does this have anything to do with using revolution? Also, I've read on here that certain dogs caught fleas, but how do you know if they've caught them? Are they visible? I'm wondering if there are any other medicines that I would need to give on a monthly/yearly basis. I will be finishing my vaccinations, and I had no idea there were so many other medications to consider. Any replies on this will be appreciated.

We have been using Revolution on our 6 mo old Yorkie and she is doing fine with it. It's my understanding that it's just one med for heartworm and fleas/ticks rather than the two that we have always used on our other dogs. We will be changing them also. This was recommended by my breeder.

Thank you. I read somewhere last night that fleas only work on cats, not dogs. Also, how long do we have to use this for?

I tried revolution one time when Bella was a pup and it didn't take care of the fleas she still had them, thats when I switched to the heartguard for heartworms and advantage for the fleas...works great.

wow I had no idea. I haven't really done that for my 5 year yorkie and i'm so thankful that he hasn't encountered any problems. When is the earliest you can start? My puppies are 12 and 13 weeks. I will loko into heartguard as well. Has anyone also heard of intraceptor? Is that a competitor for heartguard or Advantage? Thank you for your replies.

I have always used advantage on all of my dogs and when I took Scooter to the vet they used revelution. When he get older I will switch him to advantage because it is the only one that I have never had a flea with. The vet tried to put my dogs on front line one year and we got fleas so we went back to advantage and we will never switch again. I also use heart guard for the heart worm

before you start your 5 yr old yorkie on any heartworm protection have him/her tested for it first...cause if he/she has heartworms and you don't test for it and just give it, it can make them very ill or even kill them. Talk with your vet, take his advice over mine and good luck.

I'll definitely look into heartworm + advantage and will have my 5 year old checked out for any heartworms. I doubt it though because he has always been healthy, and I hear heartworms are deadly. Revolution doesn't seem too bad either, from what the members have posted. Reading few of the older threads though, I read this from one of the members: "I DO NOT deworm unless worms are present. I take a stool sample to the vet for an exam, if worms are present, then I deworm.....I haven't ever had worms in any litters, nor would I EVER deworm a puppy at the age of 2 weeks! No need to inject chemicals & poisons into their system if not needed! BYW, mine play in the grass, leaves and landscaping, I don't have any dirt but if I did they would play in that too" didn't know that I'm not suppose to use these products UNLESS there is heartworms/worms/fleas present. That seems to make more sense. Should I change vets? Weird to me that she sold me Revolution when the stool sample results didn't even come out yet and she doesn't know if my puppies have worms or not. :: Last edited by ChocoMilk; 11-29-2010 at 11:12 AM.

i have used revolution on all my girls for years..no problems..no fleas and negative HW tests every year. As far as puppies, it is my understanding that the immunities are still in their system from the mother but not sure how long that lasts. Heartworms are from Mosquitos so they wouldn't show up for years. That will not come out in a stool sample..heartworms are detected from a blood sample. Tapeworms come from ingesting a flea. The REvolution is for flea/heartworm prevention. I wouldn't mix other products in the same month as it would be too much for their systems to handle. I would think that f you don't have mosquitos in your area, you don't need to treat for those. Texas has mosquitos year round so we have to treat every month.

| My vet will not prescribe Revolution for dogs, only cats. I had asked him about it because it sounded so good. He said the tesitng has not been complete on dogs. But...he also wants yearly vaccine boosters. I have to tell him no to that.
