| Why I do frozen.. Quote:
I buy the frozen because it works better IMO. When I do canned, Teddy engages in his old ways. Frozen = no relapses. I'm not sure why, other than the pineapple in the can seems more processed. I just take them out every night before bed - 10 chunks (3 snacks for each dog plus one for the parrot) - and put them in a tupperware in the fridge - and use them the next day.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | The reason pineapple works is because it contains it enzyme called Bromelain, which is the same thing use in many meat tenderizers. This enzyme works by breaking down the protein in food and enabling the dog to digest it the first time around. If a dog smells undigested protein in the poop, he thinks this is nourishment and will eat the poop. Some dog foods have an easier to digest protein, and switching foods can stop poop eating as well.

| I was thinking if you all taught them to drink their pee you'd have self-cleaning Yorkies???? (Sorry, I couldn't resist!)

Oh but let me tell you that the poop the second time around is much grosser than the first. There is nothing clean about it, trust me!! And when Teddy throws it up, I just cry.

In my case, I do believe it's a behavioral issue.

There was a mill rescue that it even worked for but it did take time and effort. She would spin in a circle and eat her poop before it even touched the ground. It grossed her foster mom out so much that she was in tears. So I walked her through several weeks of pineapple adjustments and we watched her as she slowly stopped eating poop. At first she would pick it up and hold it in her mouth. Then she started to hide it in her doggy bed. Her poop eating was behavioral as well. But she is no longer eating her poop! It did take about 6 weeks or so before she totally stopped but it did work Please don't write it off as something that you cannot stop because it does not matter the cause. Hardcore poop eaters have been cured! Puppymill dogs are notorious poop eater and she was totally cured

It's great to know that there is help for hardcore poop eaters! Maybe you need to open a rehab?

To be honest I haven't spent enough time, more than likely. The sad part is, my biggest offender isn't real crazy about pineapple. I do have two that eat it but one of them more than the other. I know I do need to spend more time and be more patient. I may pick up some sweet potatoe for my "not to crazy about pineapple" guy and see if he prefers that more. The other thing I might do is I make them homemade frosty paws that I put a crushed banana in the mix. I might try some chunked pineapple instead? Maybe if I mask the pineapple in the yogurt, he won't know it?

I see this is going to take some time. I feel like i'm feeding him so much pineapple. He eats about 4 chunks throughout the day.

| I can only get my guy to eat MAYBE 2 pieces a day. And I have to cut the chunk into tinier pieces. And....someone did throw it up. But I don't know which one. My DH discovered the mess but he didn't see who did it.
