| ![]() So Maggie has had fleas for a while, and we can't afford frontline, she still hasn't been fixed yet. We got this flea spray and Ive been putting it on her. The other day she was playing with a tick but it never bit her or anything, just trying to play. She has thrown up twice in the past few days, like food she got into. But shes acting fine. For a while there has been brownish blots on her belly, they don't look like there on the skin ( like the skin isn't a diff. color ) Like dirt almost, or when blood drys on ur leg or arm, and its like, idk, HAHA, anyways I went and got a baby wipe and started trying to get it off, it didn't work, but I notced on her vagina, theres a red spot, and a little upper theres some more. The brown stuff didn't come off, and she started growing and kicking at me. Is she okay ? We can't afford the vet right now, but shes eating fine, and acting fine. OH YEAH, and theres a little redish pinish bump on her belly to, and the brown stuff is on both sides of her vagina. the tip of it is a light brown, please help. She also chews down there, and iches Last edited by maggies-mommy; 07-28-2010 at 08:22 PM. |

| ![]() I would see a vet, I don't think it's a good a idea to take chances with these little ones. For the fleas you could try some dawn dishwashing soap, some people have had some luck with that. Has she been spayed? I would take her to see a Dr. |

| ![]() After you give her a flea/tick bath, is there any way you could keep her in the house away from fleas and ticks until you can afford to get some Frontline. Also, could you possibly borrow enough money for a vet visit to find out what else is wrong with her? Seems like she really needs to see a vet.

| ![]() I agree with cathys, these little ones can get very sick quickly, seeing the vet is a necessity. Call and ask if they will take installments. As for the fleas, I would try using Mink Sheen shampoo, it helps keeping fleas and ticks off. |

| ![]() Those brown spots you are seeing are "flea dirt" - digested blood that the fleas poop. ![]() Ignoring fleas will only make them more expensive to get rid of. You probably have an infestation in your home already. Did you know dogs get tapeworms from fleas? Can even get anemic from blood loss? Many vets will sell you one vial of flea preventative for about $12. What are you doing about heartworm prevention? That is something that can't be ignored, either. |

| ![]() I agree with Ladymom~you need to take her to the vet. Fleas are very hard to get rid of and if left untreated they treatment and cure will continue to become more costly. I'm sorry to say but you cannot expect any other answers to your questions other than to take her to the vet. In addition your entire house will need to be disinfected and properly cleaned to rid your home of unhatched fleas. Otherwise they will never be gone. She must be very uncomfortable and the risks of tape worms and anemia will continue to increase as the flea problem multiplies. As for your lack of funds for a spay there is a sticky about low cost spay programs. I would suggest you take a look at that as well.

Also ,if she may be laying around right after she "pees" , she may have a little bit of yeast infection going on at her vulva and tummy area, it causes the brown spots too. I have read in many places that "Dawn" soap will help with the fleas, but i have actually not tried my self. You can find frontline on e-bay often, people buy , and do not use and seel cheaper. Even if you get one vial for a larger dog and use just a couple drops will help you . Besides you need to address the home infestation ASAP , before it gets out of hand badly. Iodine or peroxide to her tummy, in a cotton ball will help a lot with the brown spots . xoxo

| ![]() Treating your home, includes your yard. Because of the life cycle of the flea it will have to be done at monthly intervals. Dawn liquid bath is a quick and easy way to get rid of them. However, a vet visit is absolutely necessary. Having her stool checked for tapeworms, blood count for anemia.......I understand that finances can hinder you. Ah! one more thing; put moth ball crystals in your vacume cleaner bag.....this will kill any fleas or larvae that you vacume up....and throw the bag out when you're done.

| ![]() FYI, small dogs can succumb to flea bite anemia quickly. A tip for ridding your home of fleas-get several large boxes of baking soda and cover your carpet with it and under all furniture that sits on your carpet ( beds, dressers, sofas etc...) leave it in the carpet for at least 1 week without vacuuming then the day before you vac each time put more down. Fleas have a very thin shell and the powder will scratch the shell , the fleas will then dehydrate & die. Also the baking soda will get on the dog & keep the fleas off. Totally safe & Non-Toxic for your pets. You can use a broom to sweep it into the carpet so it doesn't look so bad till you can vac . Also do not vac it up where you put it under furniture, no one can see it there anyway and it will keep the fleas from hiding out there. ![]() |
