| If she's had fleas for awhile then you will need to start an aggressive line of treatment, unfortunately. You will need to treat your whole house (carpets, upholstery) as well as her. You can bathe her to get rid of some of the fleas and itching. If you see fleas crawling on her, you can use blue Dawn soap. If you don't see fleas and she is just itching, I would recommend using a shampoo with anti-itch ingredients like oatmeal, aloe vera, tea tree oil, etc to soothe her skin. Do not use human shampoo. There are also sprays for "hot spots" and itching, I personally like to use the flea itch spray listed here: Dog Products | Veterinarian's Best: All-Natural Products for your pets' health., although it is a little pricey. (The site has a coupon for $3 off on any product though.) You *may* be able to treat this without a vet, but you'll probably have to spend around $50. I would buy: - a powder to treat your home (around $7), - 1 dose of a flea treatment ($12-$18) to get rid of the current infestation - possibly a shampoo or Dawn if you don't have it (around $8) - an anti-itch spray since her itching seems to be bad ($7-$15) And you say you have a flea spray so I would continue to use that. Unfortunately I do not see a cheaper solution to this problem as it seems to have escalated. I understand times are hard and pets are expensive - but using a monthly flea preventative will save a lot of time and money down the road. Now you and your dog are suffering. |

Thanks for this. I hadn't had a chance to look it up and was just about to . Well that's just great I guess Ive been lucky that non of mine have ever eaten it then. However I always sweep the carpet when I put it down so that's probably why Ive not had a problem, when you sweep it in there is nothing on top to see or eat. And to think a vet told me to do this And when one of the cats had ringworm another vet years later told me to bath the cat in baking soda water and not rinse it off do ya know what happens when you wet a cat ? they lick their fur for hours after a bath. I have a printout on the fridge of things that are Toxic to pets and that is not on it so I'll be making a new list. Thanks again for posting this.

| Walmart in my area is now selling Frontline. It may be a little cheaper than the vet charges. I know that fleas and ticks can cause lots of problems for our babies. I hope that you are able to handle this problem soon. Good luck. |

| It sounds like she has quite a few issues that need to be dealt with. She needs to see a vet, plain an simple. Your inability to afford the care she needs at this point is not a valid reason to allow the problems to continue. That is called neglect. Also, if she is having continued problems with fleas, then they are likely in your home and yard too. Both will need to be treated. Frontline or Advantage would really be the best option--much better than a spray as it's effectiveness continues weeks past initial application. |

You can also buy a whole bottle of Frontline spray which will last you years for under $30 at Entirely Pets. But first you have to get rid of the infestation. I think the OP has abandoned her thread.....

| This is rhetorical, but you have to find a way to get her to the vet. You may be asking for more trouble ( and expense) by not doing so. Having a yorkie is a lot like having a baby...you have to do what's best for them.
