| I had an ultra sound done on my girl and it cost 325.00. She is on a low protein diet now. |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | honestly in my opinion 30 isn't high at all and could very possibly just be a mistake. yours is a tricky situation. you don't want to ignore it but you don't want to panic about it either. If it were me in this situation i'd just change her puppy food to a better quality like wellness, solid gold, nature's variety prairie, taste of the wild... and then retest in 2-3 months. I have a yorkie with high bile acid test results. she is 4yrs and has had 3 tests done. her latest one is pre 8 and post 70. she doesn't have a single shunt but probably has MVD. i have done no further testing to find out because she doesn't show any signs of illness. I feed her a moderate amount of protein and am starting her on a liver supplement just because it can't hurt. If she ever shows any other signs of MVD i will have it looked into by further testing. If i were you i'd read up on MVD on here and other sites to gather up as much information as you can. Write down questions and concerns you have and then speak with your vet about the best possible route to take with your puppy based on her health and situation.

| Here's what we did with Lucy. She was bile acid tested as a puppy and came back with numbers above normal - but not high numbers either. I scaled back the protein; she had been eating a high protein diet of TOTW. We also cut down on protein treats and started giving treats such as cheerios, apple, etc. Then we re-tested in 30 days. Her numbers were much lower the second time around; enough for the vet to say she has mild MVD and no treatment necessary at this time . . unless she starts to show symptoms. Right now, she is eating NB Vegetarian . . but she is almost one year old. Our Vet really did not want too much protein restriction as a small puppy. I would talk to my Vet and see what they recommend. Good luck and don't panic! |
