| Teeth growing in behind existing teeth?? Hello all! I just noticed Phoebe has teeth growing in behind her existing front, top teeth. Should I be worried about this? She is 25 weeks old. She has an overbite and the new teeth seem to be coming in a pretty good bit behind the others. Will her baby teeth eventually fall out or should I call the vet? Thanks in advance!!! |

| These are probably just retained baby teeth, it is pretty common in small dogs. She may eventually lose them, she may not... if she has not lost them by the time she is spayed, you should have the vet pull them while she is under... but it is nothing to be concerned about now. You can try giving bully sticks or playing tug of war to loosen them up and hope they come out on their own.

| Yorkies and other toy breed dogs can have a problem with retained baby teeth. They will not fall out on their own and they need to have them extracted. If they aren't, they can cause bite problems and abscesses which can spread to the adult teeth. Vets usually remove any retained baby teeth during the spay or neuter. That way, they only need the one anesthesia plus it is much less expensive. |

| If you haven't had your dog fixed I would recommend you wait. I had Teddi spayed at 5 months and then had to have her back in at 10 months to take out a bunch of teeth. I would be better if you could do both at the same time.

| Ok. Thanks! What a relief! I noticed it last night and I freaked. Speaking of having her spayed, at what month should I do this? I know it's the best thing for her, but I have to say it worries me to death to think about her being put under. She is probably a little over 5 pounds but seems so tiny. |

My girl was under 5 pounds when she went under and she had a liver biopsy which is much more invasive then just a spay and all went well. Good Luck.

| Baby Teeth I also recommend waiting till about 8 months. I had mine spayed and her baby teeth taken out at the same time. She was only 3 lbs so the vet wanted to do them all at one time so we didn't have to put her thru surgery twice. I have 13 baby in a little baggie. Don't worry, about afterwards either. I gave mine soft food for a few days and she really didn't like it. She wanted the dry stuff and did very well. |

| I agree you can wait till 8 months, just try to have it done before first heat. Sofia had to have her spay and teeth done a month apart because she was to little only 2.5 lbs. She did great, but also would not eat soft food, just ate her dry and went on like normal. |
