| Is garlic ok? I have heard that giving dogs garlic helps reduce the chance of ticks, but I have read pros and cons that it may cause your dog to become anemic. Has anyone given their Yorky garlic on a regular basis during the tick season???? I HATE those little buggers! Thanks for the help! |

| I have heard it isn't ok I have heard that it can be very toxic to dogs! So to be on the safe side I would not feed garlic to your dog. Maybe someone will post that knows more about this.

| There are two sides to this, that's why the confusing. Some do like it for bugs. Scientific evidence supporting the claim that is works...I haven't seen it, but could've missed it. A small amount on occasion shouldn't hurt a darn thing. But a larger amount or a small amount overtime is cause for a bit of concern. I choose to avoid it because I think that's best.

| Do not give them garlic for ticks. A Yorkie can probably tolerate a very small amount of cooked garlic in cooked food every once in a while (example... a little tiny bit of pesto with whole grain pasta and chicken). I have some dog cookbooks that have garlic in recipes and it's a very small amount. But... I would not give a small Yorkie raw garlic or any large amounts of cooked garlic because it can be toxic.

| When I cook up the rices, split peas, millet, lentils & barley, I throw in about 8 to 10 whole cloves of garlic but when the grains are done, I discard the garlic. I've never had a problem with them and they are getting the oils from the garlic in their food. (The grains total 8 cups, so 8 to 10 whole cloves of garlic isn't really that much for the amount of grains I cook). My dogs also get yeast flakes in their healthy powder. I think because of how I cook for them plus the yeast in the healthy powder, it's the reason they have never had a flea or tick.
