| My yorkie won't eat in her bowl. Does anyone have this problem? she won't eat when it's in her bowl. She only eat it when it's in my hand or on her bed, or anywhere else but the bowl. She barely eat it from the bowl. She kept putting her head in and out of the bowl, but won't eat it from there. What should I do? |

| Welcome to YT!! How old is your furbaby. Trixie would only eat off the floor when she first came home from the breeder at about 12 weeks. I would put kibble on the floor and leave some in her bowl. Little by little, she started getting the idea that the kibble in the bowl was the same as on the floor....now she eats out of her bowl. BTW...my friend's goldendoodle did the same thing when she first got her from the breeder.

| I have had three Yorkies and none of them ate out of their bowls! I do believe it is some "Yorkie quirk". I just put her food, wet or dry, on a plastic mat and she is quite happy with that method. So don't feel like your baby is alone in her odd habit! |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | Rhett went through this for a few days. And I was quite happy to oblige at first. My poor husband just rolled his eyes at me feeding him off a spoon. I finally put some extra 'goodies' in his bowl and that was enough to entice him in to thinking the bowl was a great thing. |

| Gabriella is 6 months old, she was 3 1/2 mos. when I got her from the Breeder. The breeder told me not to waste a lot of money on cute bowls for her. " Most yorkies won't eat from them, or they need to be very low or shallow dishes." Seems to be the case for my little darlin'! |

| I think its a small dog issue. I have a Jack Russell as well as a new Yorkie. They both remove a few pieces of food and eat it a few feet away from the bowl one piece at a time. Some times I'll see my JR get 3 pieces eat two and wait for my Yorkie to eat the third before she goes back for more. |

| She doesn't eat unless I feed her with my hands =[ I don't have her to starve. |

| eating from bowl Miss Bella won't eat out of her bowl she would rather eat out of everyone's else s But she will eat out of a plate if you put it down. then there is Jack. He will eat on a plate and then go outside where the others are eating and pick out of there also. Mind you everyone has the same in there bowls as his but that's the way mine are. Cheryl |

| Out of my three (two yorkies, one chihuahua), Addie, our first yorkie, wouldn't eat out of a bowl. I had to hand feed her for awhile. I started mixing her dry food with a bit of wet food and she started eating out of her bowl. I would handfeed and gradually get my hand closer to the bowl until she just started taking pieces out on her own. I did get the cute little bowls. Just make sure they have a low rim. Like someone else said, having a set of dishes for your little one will work too. I know people who feed their babies off of plates, one of the pups (not a yorkie) is 20 plus pounds and he won't eat out of a bowl. It does seem yorkies naturally prefer to be handfed. Addie was probably about 7-8 months old before she started eating out of a bowl on a regular basis. She still insists on taking out some of the food and eating it off the carpet though.
