I think its a small dog issue. I have a Jack Russell as well as a new Yorkie. They both remove a few pieces of food and eat it a few feet away from the bowl one piece at a time. Some times I'll see my JR get 3 pieces eat two and wait for my Yorkie to eat the third before she goes back for more.
