| List of really good vets. Please give name of facility, doctor's name and phone number. What does your vet do to make him/her better than the rest?

| We've been going to Dr. Ricky for about two and a half years. He really listens to your concerns and is very compassionate. (Sometimes his sense of humor is a little off, but that's another thread.) He has several patients who are yorkies and other small bred dogs; their moms like him and his staff, as well. I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I want a vet that has compassion, I want one that makes me feel like he's listening to me and wants to answer all my questions, and concerns. I want one that keeps informed in the latest developments, and is continuing his education because he loves his profession. I want one that is involved in the community, and who knows which specialists are the best. If you've ever had to have a pet put to sleep, you know that the relationship you have with your vet, is an extremely important one. You want a vet who's not making his decisions on how that will affect his income, but on how that will affect the pet and its family. Sometimes, a family is too close to a pet, and you need to see through the eyes of knowledgeable, compassionate professional. I don't have a list of vets, I've only listed some of the qualities that you should look for in your vet. So many times people recommend people just because they have pleased them in the past, without knowing much of their background. I've read so many times, "They came highly recommended, but . . ."

the specialists I deal with are excellent though they are very helpful. Dr Dodds emailed at 11:00 at night on how to use a cuticle clipper to split an oblong pill as my pill cutter would not work on it and she emails me from all over the world when she is speaking so she has thoroughly impressed me as i feel like she cares about my dogs and me and she is extremely knowledgeable and she helps me with dogs on here and other groups when i send videos and pics. She truly is an amazing woman and very compassionate. Dr T our Dentist is awesome. I consulted with two dentists before having demi's dental done and he emailed me back on a weekend answering all my questions off his website i posted to and that impressed me as i felt he cared enough to get my business to email me back over a weekend and the fact that he had email was impressive too. He is not big on all the supplemental stuff he says BRUSH THE TEETH. Dr Da Silva spent an hour or more going over dex eyes when i was concerned about him having dry eye as it runs in breed and he has goopy eye alot. She even had me sit down and look in microscope and showed me what was going on and then told me about using saline solution but not too much as you do not want to mess with the natural tear production of the eye. She was very thorough. Dr Gubash is very helpful and staff is amazing. I call or fax in info and they get right back to me answer all my questions. She is very thorough and very conservative and she also goes to Dr Tsugawa for her cats dental so i figure if a specialist goes to him that is a good sign and Jean Dodds recommended him to me and said he is amazing. Our internal medicine specialist is AMAZING Dr Ortega at VMSG - the hospital is open 24/7 and there are interns that are amazing and no matter what time day or night they answer the phone and help me and Dr O emails me back answering all my questions and the person in charge of meds there Michelle is awesome too she always explains meds to me and concerns. I feel safe knowing they are there for me and when my dd was so sick after metacam she had me come in and did not charge me full price fo specialist consult and spent an hour going over all of dd issues. She is very caring and saved my dexter's life - I trust her 100%. here is her facility Specialist Doctors | Veterinary Medical And Surgical Group (VMSG) i cannot say enough nice things about the specialists i have met and i feel like they care about my kids | |

| I use Animal Medical Center in Manhattan... you can use them as your regular vet or just go to see the specialists. They are very, very expensive so I will sometimes go elsewhere for minor things, shots, etc. But they are well worth the money otherwise. They take a lot of time with you, will spend as much time as necessary talking to you, they make multiple follow up calls because they truly want your pet to get better. They also do not do unnecessary things, they will go slowly through tests one by one, starting with the least invasive ones first. It is also nice that they always have specialists there... for example, a few weeks ago I took Chloe in to the general practice because she was limping... well the vet decided to take her over and have an orthopedic vet look at her as well, so I basically got a free ortho consult. YT 500 Club Member | You can see our vet at Waverlyvet.com. Ours is great because she saved our baby's life when she was just a little puppy. Sophie went into kidney failure after we had her only three weeks. Our vet called and said she thought we would have to put Sophie down. My husband and I went to her office, sobbing. Sophie took one look at us and licked our faces. Our vet was so touched that she said we had to try to save her. Well she did!!! Although we were told that Sophie would probably only live to be 2 or 3 years old, she will be 9 in July. Our vet calls her a miracle, and we call our vet wonderful!

| I use AMC too now but only for special needs - when Roxy had kidney disease I saw a kidney specialist and at one point I was considering allowing my breeder to breed and keep Lexi throughout the pregnancy and birth the pups so we saw a canine fertility specialist but it didn't work out. I'm glad I did that before even deciding. Sadly that is also where Trixie died but they hadn't treated her before...it was her last two days where the tried to bring her back from the Lysidrone the regular vet put her on. The place is amazing - they have a cardiology unit, an oncology unit, a nephrology unit...it's like 9 or 10 floors...like a regular hospital but it is extremely impersonal. I dont use them for regular care. I am using W Chelsea Veterinary and they are ok, but until you are in a crisis it seems you don't really know if they are that great. Except for puppies, I'm pretty anti vaccine, maybe once every 5 years and they respect that so I appreciate that. I also used St Marks and I liked the vets and it was a good office but the techs were awful. I actually overheard two saying to each other I hate yorkies. Even if I just overheard personal talk I felt it under minded the professionalism of the whole place and didn't go back. W Village is where I believe they killed my dog so they are a no go for certain! |
