| Skinny versus "filled out" My Fletcher is about 9lbs, he is long and lean... Ive never seen a dog's body change like his does so rapidly. He went to get neutered Jan 15th. He was soooooo skinny I thought for sure they were going to say something to me. I could feel every rib and every bump of his spine. Thing is he EATS! I mean he eats a good amount. I free feed my dogs so they always have access to food. I feed him Taste of the Wild so it's a good food. My other boy is a nice weight for his size. I was kind of nervous that the vet would think that my dog was too skinny and wonder what kind of mommy I was. Well here it is Feb 2 and this dog is ROUND! LOL I don't know if this has to do with the neuter but he has filled out everywhere, he even has a belly! He's by NO means overweight, but he has probably put on a good pound in 2.5weeks!! That's a lot on a 9lb dog! He has always been up and down on his weight, so in 2 weeks he could be all skin and bones again. He is healthy by the way, no signs of illness whatsoever and he is 4 years old and has always fluctuated a lot (IMO - but maybe its normal) weight wise.

| I remember Buddy when he was 13lbs then got sick and dropped to 11lbs. The vet thought this was a good weight for him but to me he looked sickly and skinny. You get to know your pup and know what they should look like. I was so happy when he started getting better because the weight came back on and he looked so much better filled out. That was 4 yrs ago so he has gained more finally stopping at 16lbs and he is yet to look heavy. He looks just right. Do you think your boy looks better with more weight on him? If so then I would say he needs it. Momma always knows best. |

| Maybe he just slowed down some after the neuter. Give him some time. He might start running it off again. If not and he keeps gaining you may have to limit his free eating.

| One thing to watch out for and I speak from very bitter experience is a "belly". If they suddenly start to get a "belly" get them checked out please. This happened with one of my girls, she was 13years old and suddenly started to gain weight fast. She was always a very good eater and seemed to be eating even more than usual, so we just thought she was getting a bit greedy and chubby. It wasn't, it was actually fluid around her heart and the start of heart failure. It wasn't until she started fainting that we realized she had problems. |

| Thanks so much for the heads up and warnings! My Fletcher definitely looks better with some meat on him. His belly is not really a belly I guess, but for him it is. He is still lean but he has been eating really well lately, they both have. Actually I mentioned to BF the other day that the new food we bought, (same food we always buy, just a new bag) smelled really good this time! He joked with me that he'd give me some in a baggie to snack on LOL But seriously it smelled like roasted fowl, like something just out of the oven, yummy! So maybe they are just eating more because it's a yummy batch! They are pooping like crazy too! Obviously from the eating more. BF takes them out to walk in the mornings and they are usually good until I get home, no messes in the house, but the last 2 days (since we have gotten the new food and gone back to work for the day) they have both had MESSES in the house. I mean pooping 2-3x each during the day! And the food bowl is always empty! My little piggies!
