| How long can an episode of reverse sneezing last? When Millie was alive she would have had reverse sneezing, I would calm her down, rub her throat and it would stop after maybe a minute. Toby has something that sounds very similar, but it lasted about 20 mins, with a few wee pauses during it. I tried rubbing his throat but it didnt help. Toby would be easily panicked so maybe he couldnt relax enough to allow it to stop? It also caused him to wretch a bit (nothing came up). He is fine and lying sleeping now. Or could it be something else? I rang the vet and they said: Broncitis or cough, give benalyn Collapsed trachea, not likely, as never wears collars Heart & chest problems, not likely due to his age. Have to monitor and take him in if it progresses. Can reverse sneezing last about 20 minutes? The other thing is that these wee episodes (others werent as long) probably only started happening since his op a few weeks ago. Could his throat still be sore or damaged from the tube?

| Unfortunately all the things your Vet mentioned present pretty much the same. I am not sure what benalyn is. Did you bring your dog to the Vet or did they just prescribe over the phone. How old is your dog? I ask these questions because if it is Kennel Cough than the pup needs an antibiotics and other meds this is very contagious to other dogs. Milo has had both, and it is very hard to tell the difference. If the Vet has not seen this in person I would suggest takeing a video if possible with sound so that when you are there or if you can email them they can see what was going on. |

I was speaking to the vet over the phone, but will take him in later as he needs his checkup from the op anyway. He is back to normal now, but I dont think the problem has gone away. It is more of a nasal sound, or from the back of the throat rather than chesty or coughing. I just didnt describe it well to the vet. THe vet did mention kennel cough as well.

| Milo had kennel cough as a baby then when he was about a year old he developed allergies in the spring but whenever I would bring him to the vet he would never make the noise they where all set to do the scope for collapsing trachea (Which I kept saying no I really think it is allergies I just had this wired feeling) Then a day or two before the test I was driving by the Vets office and he started making the noise I pulled in ran him inside and they where like OH thats reverse sneezing! It is so hard to tell and they are so small. Milo is 4 now and this past fall he did not have any problems I am hoping he grew out out it. Good Luck with your pup. Have a great Holiday |

| So I took Toby to the vet. He had done it again just before I took him, after he had gotten up from sleeping. I had a few videos. Vet looked at the first one, which was very short, and said is was definitely nasal. He looked at another and said it was just reverse sneezing. He said something must be irritating him more than normal to cause it to be so bad today. Toby is on NSAIDs since the Legg Perthes op, and the vet said a lot of the time dogs are allergic to them, which makes sense, and I have only really noticed it since the op. He said he maybe has a cold or something now that has increased. Funny thing is, I hadnt given Toby his medication today. I dont like him being on painkillers, and he doesnt seem to be in any pain now, so I decided to see how he got on without them. Why would the first day without the meds trigger an allergic reaction to them? Anyway, because he had no meds today, the vet was able to give him a steroid shot, and there have been no episodes since.
