| Need help making formula I have attached pictures. These girls are litter mates born 12/1. The smaller girl is not doing well even though she nurses her mom. As you can see by her sister, mom's milk isn't the problem. I have been supplimenting her with a bottle. What I need to know now is how do I get more fat on her? What can I add to her milk that will get more fat into her diet? Thanks, Sylvia |

| Sylvia... I don't know that it is a good idea to add something to her diet to get "fat" on her.... I am no expert, but I think the important thing should be that she is GAINING daily. each time she eats she should have a nice round tummy and you may have to weigh her both before and after eating to make sure she is gaining. I hope one of the more experienced breeders can give you a better answer. BTW.. I just had 2 little boys on 12/1/2009. What is the weight of these two??

| what are you using Hi, we just had a litter Saturday of 6 puppies, when I took them to the vet Saturday she sent me home with some powdered SPECIAL goats milk. The vet stated this was from the more expensive goats, it had more nuterients and was digested and tolerated by the puppies better than anything else she knew of. The puppies would be able to maintain better with it. My suggestion is to phone your local vet and inquire about it. If I can suggest something to you, be careful about following some of the advise you can get here. I just sat through a 15 minute sermon due to following what someone else done. They were telling they gave their yorkie ice cream during the birthing process. Last night cabella would not eat, drink nor even clean her puppies. I was afraid she wouldn't be with me by morning, I thought about the ice cream and decided to at least try it. She licked it right up. It was only about 2 tablespoons if that. This is such a no no per my vet. She went bonkers on me. I know dairy products are not good for them, but i was desperate, needless to say I have her pager number home number and cell and the ok to call anytime before I try any home remedies out again. She also gave me some sites to try for information and I will pass these on to you, they are all used by the vets www.vin.com www.avma.com good luck with the puppies. By the way, thank Goodness I didn't tell her about adding 1 tablespoon of cottage cheese to Joey's food in the am and pm when his ears wouldn't stand up. She would be in her grave at this time!!!!LOL She is just the best vet ever. She phones to check on the guys. I found her when my daughters sugargliders were out of water and they had gone out of town, phoned to ask me to go by and check them for her. I found her lifeless and took her to my regular vet and they wouldn't even help me get water into her but suggested me to take it to her, they were new in town, well I did as as I walked in the door and told her what i had she grabbed it took it through the office door and begain shooting her up with liquids after about 30 minutes she came back in to talk to me about options, not so much the how will you pay for it. I found this very appealing, try to save the animal first. She now sees our 10 dogs two cats and 2 birds. We have been blessed with her. good luck |

Im not a breeder or an expert by anymeans but maybe there is something wrong with her and thats why she is so small? The woman that we got Tucker from had another litter in feb of last year and she had 2 that were like that.. one was huge compared to the sister and they didnt think she was going to make it because of the size difference, however she did and she is doing wonderful today. So maybe its just that she will be a smaller pup. Good luck with her and I hope she continues to thrive. ((hugs))

| You can get some puppy replacement formula from a pet store or a veterinarian. What have you been putting in the bottle? How does she act. Is she aggressive when she eats? Have you checked her mouth for a cleft pallet? If she is aggressive, and acting normally she may just be small. How does momma react to her? We need more information. | Are you feeding her equal parts goats milk to eaqual parts water? I have one that is very tiny compared to his litter mates. I am having to bottle feed this litter as well. Mom got eclampsia and cannot nurse them. Even though he is the smallest, he is very strong and very loud when he's hungry. You may just have a small Yorkie.

Bottle Feeding Recipe 11 Calories per CC 1. 10 oz. of canned evaporated milk or goat's milk (not pasteurized cow's milk - this will cause scowers - dogs cannot drink normal cow's milk) Goats milk is by far the best to use. Wall Mart sells it. 2. 3 oz. sterilized water (baby water or boiled water) this is not needed if using goat's milk 3. 1 raw egg yolk 4. 1 cup of whole yogurt (avoid skim or fat free if at all possible) 5. 1/2 Tsp Karo Syrup or Corn Syrup (NOT HONEY !!!) ****If you cannot find Karo or Corn syrup where you live, you can do a Google search for “substitute for Karo syrup” and get some options.**** When I Googled “substitute for Karo syrup" here is what I came up with- 1 c Karo can be subbed with 1 c white sugar and 1/4 c hot water (cook it to dissolve in the water best you can get it to. Depending on the recipe, if you need the sugar to be completely dissolved you might need to add a bit more water). Place ingredients in a blender and blend or use a wire whisk. Be careful to not over blend and create a milk shake full of bubbles and then tube bubbles into the puppy. Keep cool and discard leftovers after 7 days. Warm formula to body temperature (dogs are around 101 degrees). Discard any un-used formula. This is a thick mixture - use a stomach tube to tube feed or enlarge the hole in the nipple for easy access for the pup.

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | Here is another good formula I like: Boil one large piece of liver in a cup of water (add water if needed) until it is very cooked. Strain the liquid and freeze leftover liquid in ice cube trays and keep in plastic bag. One 10 can of goats milk 3 oz of Liver water (above) One raw egg yolk One cup of whole fat live culture yogurt One tablepoon of mayo or canola oil One dropper of infant vitamins One teaspoon of Karo...light or dark...doesn't matter which Mix in a blender, keeps in your fridge for 7 days. This is a thick formula, so adjust holes in nipples if necessary. It can be tubed. It has 10-12 calories per cc which should allow for good weight gain on your babies. |

Canned Goats Milk equal parts of distilled water and a bit of Karo. Please, please not store bought replacement formula......There is a thread on Esbilac, causing liver damage and Just Born causes premature cateracs.

Hi, Sunnie. I weighed them today, I hadn't weighed them before. The little one only weighs 2.9 ounces. Makes me wonder how much she weighed when she was born. Her sister is going great guns, she weighs over 10 ounces. I mis-spoke myself, I didn't mean I wanted to make her fat, I just want her to start gaining. Right now she is starting to look like she is getting dehydrated a little bit. Sylvia

Mom is taking care of her and comes to sit by me while I feed her. She sits and crys until I put the baby back. I put the baby under warm water last night, just her back half, and massaged her belly for a good long while. Afterward I sat with her under a blow dryer and still massaging her belly. She took the bottle after a while but not much. I have a heating pad half under their bed. They can get on if they are cold or move away if they get too hot. Sylvia
