Yes, but I have lost teeny ones before and I think part of the reason was that I was using concentrated goats milk and it may have caused a blockage in the intestines. I didn't realize that the canned goats milk was concentrated but the first little girl I used it on did very well with it. I do have to admit, she was a couple of weeks older than this one when her mother lost her milk. Sylvia

Bottle Feeding Recipe

11 Calories per CC

1. 10 oz. of canned evaporated milk or goat's milk (not pasteurized cow's milk - this will cause scowers - dogs cannot drink normal cow's milk) Goats milk is by far the best to use. Wall Mart sells it.

2. 3 oz. sterilized water (baby water or boiled water) this is not needed if using goat's milk

3. 1 raw egg yolk

4. 1 cup of whole yogurt (avoid skim or fat free if at all possible)

5. 1/2 Tsp Karo Syrup or Corn Syrup (NOT HONEY !!!)

****If you cannot find Karo or Corn syrup where you live, you can do a Google search for “substitute for Karo syrup” and get some options.****

When I Googled “substitute for Karo syrup" here is what I came up with- 1 c Karo can be subbed with 1 c white sugar and 1/4 c hot water (cook it to dissolve in the water best you can get it to. Depending on the recipe, if you need the sugar to be completely dissolved you might need to add a bit more water).

Place ingredients in a blender and blend or use a wire whisk. Be careful to not over blend and create a milk shake full of bubbles and then tube bubbles into the puppy.

Keep cool and discard leftovers after 7 days.

Warm formula to body temperature (dogs are around 101 degrees). Discard any un-used formula. This is a thick mixture - use a stomach tube to tube feed or enlarge the hole in the nipple for easy access for the pup.

As you can see by the times on my earlier posts, I was up keeping an eye on her all night. To my amazement, when I got up a little while ago, she is still alive. She's a fighter. I put her up to mom cause her sister was nursing but she was on the heating pad end of the bed but she wouldn't nurse. She just cuddled up to them and laid there. I am going to feed her again in a few minutes. Thanks for asking. Sylvia

Sylvia, why haven't you taken her to the vet? She is in distress and needs expert help now. If she is dehydrated they can do an IV. She needs help, or she will die!!! Please Please, bundle her and sis up, I get my laundry basket line it with a warm blanket take their warm bedding this is a piece of carpet that is in a flannel pillow case with a soft towel safety pinned around it that has been over the heating pad and put it ontop of the blanket. I also heat a long sock with rice in it. and lay it along side under the carpet piece. Put the puppies on this with a very soft receiving blanket ontop of them. Just as I go out the door, I fold the other blanket over them until I get to the warmed car. Mom walks along with us. After I get in the car, Cabella gets to check her puppies out and she has room to get in with them if she wants to and she does. I would call the vets office and TELL them I am on my way, don't ask for an appointment, and if they won't see you find you a vet that will, at this point this is an emergency!!!Please I hope you will take my advise, If you go and nothing is wrong with her, let me know and I will help you out with the office visit. I agree with you get this pup the vet to have it Sub-Q'd

Talk to Prestigeous about the sock with rice. She had a pup burn with it.
I have a big Carrier all lined softely to get my pups to the vet.....Big enough for mom and the pups......It's got a big fleece cover that fits over the top......I put mom in, then the pups up next to her.

I'd check with your vet, but raw egg yolk for a pup this young can be just a bit much for it's tummy. Keep it simple.

Oh, Sharon, thank you for the offer of help and I am sorry that I freaked you out. I have been in contact with my vet and the baby is barely dehydrated. Also, she is doing much better now. Earlier she wouldn't nurse from the bottle but now she is. I had forgotten about heating rice in a sock, I am going to add that to their bed.

I have had many tiny babies and from my experience there isn't much more the vet can do for my babies than I can. I can give subq injections and I am constantly on watch with them. That is one thing the vet can't do. They have a business to run and I just have one baby to save. My vet asks the same questions as I get here. So I am confident that this group is one of the BEST resources there is.

The only difference I can see is that they went to school for years and still can't help my babies more than I can. I don't blame them, the babies are so tiny that there is not much they could do without microsurgery type tools and to put that much effort into a baby only to have it die anyways is basically a waste of time and money. That sounds horrid but it's the truth and I would rather know that I have fought a war with God and He won, than to imagine my baby in an incubator with only the sounds of machines and people talking in the distance when she passes on (if she passes on).

To make her go potty. I use a cotton ball and rub her gently to make her go. I had the thought that maybe she was constipated. I believe the warm water combined with the massage would help with peristalsis.

Peristalsis is a series of organized muscle contractions that occur throughout the digestive tract to move food through the intestines.

About an hour and a half ago she drank a little bit of milk and just a few minutes ago she drank some water. This was approved by my vet, to give her water. I weighed her and she now weighs 3.1 ounces. This morning she weighed 3 ounces. I'll take any improvement no matter how small. The best way to know though, is will she still maintain it in the morning. Sylvia
