| My Puppy Is Peeing Clear Puddles!! Hi--I have an 18-week-old yorkie, Shang Poo, and she started urinating today A LOT! Not dribbles, but puddles and in the house!! She rarely has an accident in the house!! The puddles are large, clear and with no odor!! At first I thought the kids were spilling water all over the kitchen floor, but then I caught her in the act!! Anyone have a clue. I just emailed our friend, who is also our Vet, and am waiting to hear back from him. I'm sure he'll tell me to bring her in!! Any thoughts??? Wasn't sure how to "post" this--it's my first "help" session!!! |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I hope it is nothing serious. I got Dixie at 6 months of age and noticed from day one that her pee was clear and no odor so I took her in and her kidneys had not developed. She was not peeing a lot though so hopefully your puppy has an infection or something simple to fix. Please keep us posted.

| I was having this same problem for weeks... You need to get a clean sample for the vet so that the Specific Gravity of the urine can be tested, this tells how concentrated the urine is. There are also other tests that can be done to try and pinpoint a condition. It can be caused by kidney problems, cystic kidneys, a liver shunt, MVA, a bacterial infection, etc, etc... there are really so many different things it can be from very minor issues to more serious problems. If this is going on all the time you really need to vet the dog. To the previous poster, if it is kidney problems it would be happening all the time. If your puppy is only peeing clear every once and awhile it is probably caused by drinking too much. |

| Clear urine usually means that the dog is drinking alot of water. This is not a bad thing. I asked my vet once because some young pups I had were urinating yellow and some were urinating clear. It never hurts to contact your vet if you are concerned. We only give "opinions" here. Best of luck.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | They did BUN and creatine and her results were so high they didn't even register at the regular vets machine. I took her to a nephrologist and an ultrasound showed her kidneys had not developed hardly at all and her kidney function was 17%. We tried meds (6) but her kidneys were just not developed enough and she didn't make it. This was an extreme case and not common. So many minor reasons can account for clear urine but I would definitley get the urine tests and BUN and Creatine if it is happening all the time and you want peace of mind.
