I had this issue with Piper.

All 4 of her baby canines were still hanging in there pretty good when she got spayed last week and the adult canines were coming in. I had the vet pull all 4 baby teeth when she got spayed and he said it was actually a good thing because they were still really impacted and it was causing the adult teeth to be displaced.

It does appear that double canines are quite common with Yorkies and not something to worry about. I keep giving Gabi rawhide chews to hasten their departure. I may wiggle them once and awhile to see if they are loose, but I think eventually they will come out on their own. Do not know if you have had Yorkies before, but they are notorious finiky eaters. Gabi just now started eating her kibble again after I stopped giving her anything else.
One other thing I would like to mention about your vet recommending a teeth cleaning at 12 months

...way too soon for that. I presume he was planning on doing this under anethesia and then pull the baby teeth while your baby was out. I have been using a safe and natural tooth spray for Gabi since she was 3 months old. It is called Denta Sure and you can buy it on line. It works great on keeping her teeth tartar free and breath fresh. I just spray it in both sides of her mouth everyday . She doesn't mind it at all. Just thought I'd pass this info on to you.

Hey thanks so much for your response. I've never had a yorkie before but am quickly learning their quirks.. I am finding a new vet as the one we originally saw is way too overpriced and has nit been very helpful but my research also said a year was too soon to clean. We've been busboy his teeth at home but I will look for that spray - if you take good care of teeth at home is it necessary to do the anesthesia cleaning? I'm encoraging chewing and hoping these come out on their own both sets look white and healthy so I'm not too worried. He's spoiled rotten so we just get concerned very quickly

were onto finding a new food because he's refusing to eat the food he's had for 5 months is that spray available at petsmart?

I never had to have my Yorkies teeth cleaned under anesthesia. I started brushing them myself when they were pups and they had healthy teeth to the end. This spray is much easier but it is only sold on like. Just google Denta Sure and you will find the website. I have had very good luck with Royal Canin food for Yorkshire Terriers. It is a super premium food and Gabi really likes it. I tis formulated for a healthy coat, etc., and is more expensive than other foods, but if you are just throwing out food they will not eat, it really is worth the price. Gabi is only 3.5 lbs. so she doesn't eat more than a 1/4 cup a day, so I do not mind paying the premium price. Wellness is a good brand too. I know how frustrating it is to get them to eat their own food! good and luck and let me know if you find the tooth spray.

My Yorkie has 2 sets of teeth and they look really bad. He even has 1 thru the front bottom gum, what can I do scared to put him under to be pulled, he is so tiny. HELP

I also did not ask for Knox's baby teeth to be removed when he was fixed several months ago....So yesterday he had to have another surgery to have two canine teeth removed. I waited until he was almost 11 months and I figured they weren't coming out on their own by that point. I am glad it is over and it will be one less thing I have to worry about with him

Lily just finally lost her double canine tooth about a week ago. She is 8 months old. I kept giving her something to chew on daily for an hour or so, like a himalayan chew or bully stick. She eventually worked it out.

Just ask your vet if they are experienced with tiny dogs anesthesia. It is much safer to do this than to let bad teeth continue to set up a bacteria fest in their mouth. It can even lead to heart problems! I just had dentals done on 2 of mine. Ben is 4 lbs and did fine with the surgery. I had him neutered at the same time. Don't put off having his teeth taken care of -- it really could be a matter of life and death!

All i can say is that puppies with retained teerh have the worst breath. Once they were removed i welcomed those puppy kisses

thats funny I havent noticed ti with bentley and he's always giving me puppy kisses! he's only got the double upper canines though. He seems to be fine and I was told to wait until about 11 mon- year if he's not shownig any signs of infection/pain.etc and he seems to be just fine so I'm going to give it some time

my yorkie is still young, but my cavalier had one double canine. it was not pretty, as well as it seemed uncomfortable. we had given him many things to chew, but that tooth was not at all loose, and they way they lined up, it actually looked like it would stay there. we got it out when he was neutered, and the recovery of the tooth was nothing. i was expected issues with food and chew toys, but he was fine, and he looks much better. i would get them out to avoid an additional area for bacteria and plaque to grow. if that tooth had remained, it would have def been catching all the food. good luck

my shaymus did the same thing. i thought what in the world. but thebaby teeth did fall out on there own
