| Vomiting after trying NV raw? I recently inherited a 6yo yorkie. She seems to be in fine health (great, considering her age IMO)and came w/complete file of all vet records that didn't indicate previous conditions. She was eating a kibble that appears to be Beneful (came in a large ziploc). I remember research I'd done w/a previous pet about the benefits of raw and felt it would be in her best interest to change. Plus her coat and skin seemed a bit dry and she seemed like she could use a little pep (although I know that may just be her age). So I bought a bag of the lamb and a bag of chicken medallions. I fed her 2 as suggested. SHE LOVED IT! The first evening went well. But the next evening she vomited within an hour. Graphic warning- it was pretty lumpy like a lot of it wasn't digested. I thought it might be just and adjustment so the next day I only fed her 1 w/a little of her regular kibble. She vomited again. So to give her a break we went back to her kibble for a day. I tried the half/half and again, same reaction. I just seems so odd that she would have a harder time w/a soft raw product than a cheap grain filled kibble? I want to help her and give her the best but I don't want to ignore common sense either. What is really kind of sad is she loves the raw so much, and while she'll eat her regular she'll look down and then at me so disappointed, LOL. Any ideas? |

| My Angel - who will literally eat anything given - has vomited anytime she has had a raw medallion or grind of any kind that contains bone fragments. She does just fine with The Honest Kitchen freeze-dried raw as it doesn't contain any bone........

| Hmmm, I didn't think of the bones being the culprit. I assumed it was ground so fine that it wasn't really "fragments". I read a post mentioning that cooking takes away some of the benefits, does freeze dried also do this? |

| Laya had a problem with vomiting when I switched her to NV raw. She would just be walking by and vomit, no warning. I finally realized the food was too cold. I was feeding it right out of the fridge after it thawed. Now I let it sit out for about 15 to 20 minutes. It is still chilled but not cold. Now no problems. And I can't give her the chicken, it makes her sick. We use the venison and she loves it no problems.

| Well right now that is the only thing Bella will eat. I just take them out of the freezer and nuke them in the microwave for about 30 seconds. Then I break it up. They do have dry NV kibbles. How long have you had her? Maybe she is nervous. Good Luck

| We've had her about 10 days, but honestly she made herself right at home the first day. She's the sweetest thing, loves the kids, no nervousness. She just gets agitated when there's another animal or she thinks someone came in the door- but hey, she's a terrier right? LOL I would think if it were anxiety she would have a problem w/her regular food too? I'm not sure. I don't know if I feed it to her too cold. I usually thaw it on the counter for a bit and then the fridge as I forget to move the night before. But I don't leave them out too long. I did once and tossed them, I didn't want risk anything since their little systems are delicate as it is. I suppose it might be the type of meat. I have fed both (not at the same meal) but haven't tracked if one is the culprit more than the other. A part of me is scared to keep testing it. She doesn't seem to feel bad until an hour or so later and then it happens. |

| Both of my cats vomited a lot on NV's raw medallions. I don't know what the problem was-- neither of them have particularly sensitive stomachs, and they've always been on grain-free diets so it wasn't as if I was introducing them to a much richer food than they'd had previously. I was very careful about thawing the food and heating it slightly under running water to "mouse temperature". I kept trying to gradually switch them over for a pretty long time, but in the end I gave up. So you're not alone with the mysterious vomiting!

| The freeze-drying process that is used with The Honest Kitchen keeps the integrity of the raw and all the good ingredients. It was either the bone fragments or the concentration of organ meats in the medallions and grinds. Those two things are the only difference between those raws and THK. But before Angel would vomit, she would hack and gag as if something was caught in her through - so I am thinking it was the bone fragments (and always at least an hour after she ate).
