| giving omega 3 / fish oil.. I know alot of you give omega 3 to your yorkies. the question is how much do you give? I have omega 3 in soft gel capsules, so how much should I give? half a day? every day or just 2-3 times a week? also do you need vitamin E after omega 3? which one is better anyway? |

| The EPA and DHA is important and the amount given is figured by weight of the dog. It is a good idea to give vitamin e with it or some products already add it for you.

I always though that fish oil was high on vit A, which is not easy to be released by the body and high dosages or if given for to long can damage the liver, is this true? Is there a difference between fish oil and salmon oil in specific? What proportion should I use oil/vit e ?

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I give about 1/8th-1/4 tsp in the evening. I don't use capsules bc they were just too much of a hassle for me . I use Ark Naturals Royal Coat bc in add'n to the EPA/DHA, it also has LA and GLA, which is really good for skin (and it has Vit a/d/e). Also, dogs need to be given Vit E when giving fish oils - so also give about 10 IU of E.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hi Yen - the Ark Oil already has the Vit E in it - so no need to mess w/ finding one. Super easy!

| my little guy (recently rescued) has a lot of bald spots and extremely flaky skin. He had a severe bacterial infection that caused the hair loss (along with lying in feces for years). i started him on 1/2 pump of salmon oil once a day, and in just 2 weeks, he has no flaky skin at all. should i be giving him vitamin E also? he has no teeth, so liquids are a must! She is not too young to try the oil - so you definitely could try it. I really think it's a wonderful oil and can help skin/coat for some dogs. Quote:
