| Now im thinking between Natures recipe, Wellness, or Natural Balance. still reading up on them. Any of those sound like they would be good ones?

Food Maxwell’s been on: • Diamond: from breeder • Professional Brand from Feeder's Supply (local pet shop;sniffed and walked away or just would avoid) • Iam’s puppy & active puppy (from the Kroger's grocery; ate little to none; even sniffed and walked away or just would avoid) • (In-between mixed different wet food with dry Iam’s puppy) (ate little to none; even sniffed and walked away or just would avoid) • Merrick’s dry & wet (ate little to none & even choked on the wet type; even sniffed and walked away or just would avoid) • Beneful mixed with Pedigree Butcher Select (wet) (ate little to none; even sniffed and walked away or just would avoid) • Purina 1 (would not eat at all & had to take back to Kroger's) • Royal Canine (eats without any problems) I was left with numerous of bags of food and eventually threw them out. He doesn't do that with "Royal Canine". But all dogs are different. Mine is picky and I am told a lot of these Yorkies are picky. You may have to experience first hand to what I am talking about. "Royal Canine" isn't cheap, nor is having a dog of any type. | |

| I would definitely choose Wellness or Natural Balance. Wellness would be my 1st choice as I feel it has more meat in it's ingredients. I could be wrong but I know in the LID diets, meat is not the 1st ingredient. I would choose Wellness for Small Breeds.

| I was considering the wellness my first choice. But if she is only going to be about 8 weeks old when i get her, shouldn't i start her on some sort of puppy food?

| For puppy food, I really, really like Wellness Puppy and Innova Puppy. I am not familiar with Nature's Recipe, and feel that the Natural Balance foods are a bit low in fat and protein for a growing pup. I do not like *super* high protein for puppies, but I beleive they need a moderate amount. You can e-mail Wellness and request a sample. Be prepared for your puppy to possibly not be a great eater when you first bring her home. I would request a small baggie of whatever food the breeder has been using, and feed her strictly that for the first week. She'll be stressed enough. Then, after a week or so, start gradually introducing her to whatever you decide to feed. The important thing is to not run out to the store and purchase a new food if your puppy isn't interested in what you have chosen, or everytime she turns her nose up. If you constantly switch things up, you can create huge problems down the road with a super picky puppy, which is NO FUN!! We used a tiny bit of canned (Wellness) added to Ranger's puppy food when we first picked him up, which did the trick. I also like adding cottage cheese or yogurt to entice them to eat.

Just something to consider, but you really should research all you can about small breed puppies and how scary they can be at such a young age.

| First of all, what does the breeder have the puppy on? You don't want to bring her home and just switch foods, she may be on a good food now. My breeder uses purina pro plan and has alwyas had very good results with that. I actually just took my dogs off of taste of the wild(it's a 6 star food) as they have all been itching, and the yorkie has a rash, infected ears and looks terrible, so not always are the "best" foods the best if you know what I mean. The main thing is for a meat to be the first ingredient in the food you pick. I was trying to stay away from corn, but, after talking to my vet(she's only 25 and has done a lot of research on allergies), she has said that more dogs are actually allergic to the chicken, turkey, beef, etc. So, I just switched my little ones over to science diet natures variety lamb and brown rice. Well, should say I'm in the switching stage still since we just started it today. Good luck on whatever you decide. Can't wait to see your baby |
