| Trimming female yorkie's privates Forgot to add this to my last post...do you trim the little area by your little girl's peepee? How much do I leave? Does your little girl squirm when you do this. Oh, also how do you keep your yorkie smelling baby fresh (their little coat). My hubby is such a neat freak that he says he wants to bathe her every 3rd day cause she doesn't smell clean. I would like to use something to keep her little coat smelling beautiful most of the time. I sure hope she isn't allergic to whatever it is I put on her, the few times that I put hairspray on my hair, she starts sneezing ;o). I've stopped using it so she won't sneeze, even if she's a foot away from me she does 3-4 little sneezes. Does your baby do this when you put perfume, hairspray or when he/she is near scented flowers. I would like a few nice smelling flowers in my yard, but am afraid she may have her little sneezes...thanks in advance. |

| We keep Toto's little tee tee area trimmed with scissors. The groomer used clippers once and it caused her to scratch when the hair started growing out because it was prickly! We don't allow it trimmed with clippers ... I prefer to clip it myself and she hasn't scratched since that hair grew back!

| We use a man's moustache clipper (had to buy hubby a new one). Not as big and not as noisy as a regular clipper. We use that on their ears as well. It is a two person job anyway. Hubby to hold them so they will stand up and me to clip. |

| I groom my own yorkies. At first I was afraid to use clippers on their privates (girls), but then I once saw the groomer do it, so I just went ahead and did it. I use the clippers, #10, very short, and I just clip all under their tail and right over their little openings! I keep their hair short all over, except for their faces. They smell better that way, and you only have to clean them once or twice a week. Ideally, I would like to do it twice a week, but I don't usually have the spare time. |

| In regards to keeping your pet smelling fresh everyday without putting him/her through the harsh reality of a bath :O), Lily likes the fresh pet wipes.... You can get these at any target, petco, etc.... and they are basically baby wipes for your pets skin and hair. They remove dandruff and leave her smelling babysoft. I also use them to clean her paws, since she is a tinklepad user and sometimes steps in it!

I think it is best to keep this area closely trimmed but I am a little nervous to cut too short. Although I think a few times it was shaved too close before when they would go to the groomer. SOmetimes they had razor burn and they both scooted until it healed. I hated to see them uncomfortable like that. I also only bathe my girls once a month. How much hair is left when using #10 blade? this site shows some of the blades, their lengths, and what they are commonly used for. http://www.petgroomer.com/Grooming10...es-revised.htm They recommend a #10 for genitals

| thanks for sending such helpful info. Samie's hair is a bit long down in that area and bc of that i think she developed some irrititation. It was easy to mis-read the scoooting as an anal gland prob and not vaginal area. i had just cleaned her anal glands. I do have ointment to put on her but it is prescription (Entederm ointment). I am almost out, but this was given for her the last time she had irritation. Not sure of any other ointment that would be ok to use. I don't want to take her to the reg vet anymore- we started taking her to a specialist. The reg vet had her on way too much medication. The specialist said to stop everything and get a new baseline in 6 wks. If the small area that is bothering her doesn't get better within a week i will take her in. but i really am thinking that this irritation is from the area being too wet. Hard to believe how fast the hair grows on them there. when i turned her over I couldn't find her little private part. the hair was about 2 inches long. OOPS. my bad- I have got to be better at that! :-) Thanks for sending the info. what kind of clipper do you use if you don't mind me asking. I currently use a Wahl peanut trimmer to do pads of feet and ears. but i am researcing for a good clipper. I have been on to petsedge.com to see their line of clippers but how do i know which one to get? i will spend 100.00 on one but I am sure wondering which is the good one to go with. Tired of scissoring and I do keep both of my girls short in a puppy cut. my husband doesn't understand why the wahl hair clippers i have do not work. something about strokes per min or ?? they just do not grab the hair to trim it. AND I am the one that does this grooming and i NEED them :-) Last edited by sadiesamie; 02-17-2008 at 09:43 AM. |
