| 7 pounds at 4 months hi yt members, i have a question about my boy. he'll be 5 months on sept 10 and i took him to the groomer today and he called my baby a small horse. he even ?'s if he was a purebred. says most yorkies are less than 6 pounds and mine will be huge. i have papers on him and got him from a good breeder who told me that she has never had dogs who grew larger than 8 or 9 pounds but that shes couldnt say for sure how big he would be. she told me that based on his weight at 8 weeks( 3 pounds) he should triple that and be around 8 or 9 pounds. is this true??? the groomer said my boy will weight about 12 or 15 pounds..how do i know??? he looks small... and his body is small compared to some yorkies in my neighborhood. he doesnt look tall or long actually he looks short and petiet..but since i started giving him cottage in the mornings i have notice that he's filled out a little but i can still feel his ribs and see a curve in his body...should i feed him less? excersize him more?? or just leave him alone and let nature take its course.... last vet visit he was 6 pounds 8 oz

| When a breeder evaluate the weight a Yorkie at 3 months , he never multiplied it by 3 but by 2 . |

| First, I wouldn't question his breed, he looks all yorkie to me. Second some get bigger, I have said this in the past, Haven't you ever seen a person who was tall and their parents small, it happens, some where in his genes are larger yorkies. Most yorkies stop growing between 6 and 9 months. I don't think he is fat and I don't think you need to excersize him more or feed him less, he just going to be bigger than the standard 7, but you knew that when you bought him.. Don't worry just love him, he is adorable, I think he looks all yorkie.. |

| Hmmm...I thought it was triple the weight at 8 weeks and double it at 12 weeks? Regardless that isn't always exact anyways. Teddy was a little under 2 pounds at 8 weeks and now he is a small horse too weighing in at almost 10 pounds at 8 months. Personally I could care less if he weighed 20 pounds, had an extra eye in the center of his forehead, and was green with purple polka dots. Gosh I love the little guy! Besides I think your groomer should just stick to the job of grooming and zip the mouth...because there are many, many yorkies that weigh over 6 pounds.

right but he wasnt 3 months he was 2 months. so based on what she told me you take the weight of 8 weeks and triple or you take the weight at 12 weeks and double. have you been told anything diff. i believe at 12 weeks he was about 4 1/2 pounds. he's 20 weeks now and hes 6 pounds 8 oz... all the yorkie weight scales stops at 6 pounds. does anyone have one for larger yorkies?????? i know he wont be 20 or 30 pounds and ill love him no matter what.... but it hurt my feeling that he called my boy a horse.....

| Too cute he looks like he has the same body type is Gidget....when she got "fixed" at 7 months she was already over 6lbs and i know she has grown since then. when we brought her to the vet for her first visit he said she would max out at 6lbs :P I started wondering what was up seeing that I hear everyone talking about 4lb yorkies and that.....But I was reading that they can be like 12lbs and still fit the catagory or that (I think)....so I stoped worrying. I know she is all yorkie and even if not i still would love her all the same...not like im going to show her.... |

| I'm sorry your feelings were hurt. Sometimes people say things without thinking. My first yorkie was only supposed to be about 7 pounds and ended up being eleven. It did bother me at first when people made comments - he can't be a purebred or I've never seen a yorkie with such long legs - but then I just got over it and realized I had a really great, slightly larger than most, yorkie. He was something special and I'm sure yours is too. Don't let anyone convince you otherwise.

| Your boy is al Yorkie. If he was 4 lbs at 12 weeks he will be around 8 to 9 lbs. SO I think the breeder was rite. But that is not always accurate. Some start slowing down in gain weigh around 6 months. He is adorable so enjoy him and dont listen to people that dont know better. |

| I don't know much, but I think your baby is beautiful, and I'd find a different groomer who can keep a civil tongue in his head. What kind of idiot criticizes the clients? I've never had a beautician insult my hair, have you? (Though once I had one "tactfully" ask, "Did you PAY for your last haircut or did a friend give it to you?" I had had a really bad haircut previously and the poor man was trying to fix the damage.) So why would a groomer criticize your dog? Makes no sense at all. Sounds to me like a person who just like to pretend to know more than he really does. |

| I think your pup is adorable and I am sure he is all Yorkie. You might want to reconsider the cottage cheese? Is it low fat? I know cottage cheese is good for them if they are tiny babies or poor eaters but not sure at his age? Does he eat a high quality dry food? or is he picky? How much food does he eat per day? |

| thanks for all the wonderful words about my boy. i wuv him to death. i give him lowfat cottage in the mornings mixed with nutro because his ears are floppy and he eats off the tape when i tried to tape them. i read in a thread that cottage cheese was good *** the ears...but i have notice that he has filled out since he started eaten this. be*** he didnt eat alot about a 1/2 a cup of dry kibble(nutro) a day maybe less. i noticed it about a month ago i thought it was because he's teething.loss of appitete. be*** that he ate like a horse. the vets says hes healthy very healthy..... i have a wood bed and there are wood support under it and he stays under my bed. i noticed last night chipped wood under the bed..so he doesnt eat much right now but he chews everything he can get his little mouth around.......im waiting on the out come of the teething before i make an appointment to have him neutered......

| She was absolutely rude and unprofessional. Don't worry about the weight or size. Let nature take its course. By the way, he's awfully cute!
