| Feeding Only Twice A Day My 3.7 pound Charlie is 6.5 months old. He eats three times a day but he only eats about 10 kibbles in the morning, 20 in the afternoon and about 40 at night (he runs around the most after I get home from work between lunch and dinner). I'd love to start feeding him twice a day since it'll be easier on my schedule with work. When can I do that? And with him eating so little in the morning - how do I ever transition into feeding three times a day? Do I feed more if I feed twice a day or less? |

| my charlie eats a lot. He eats 3 times a day. I am trying to cut him to 2 times a day since I noticed that he is getting chubby. My friend told me she feed her yorkie only once a day. |

| Only adult Yorkies should be fed once a day. How old is your Charlie and how much does he weigh? |

I would offer him the same amount total but divide it into two meals instead of three. He should be fine at his age with two meals a day. So if the food you're feeding recommends for ex. 1/2 cup total a day, offer him 1/4 cup in the morning and 1/4 cup in the evening.

| Hi I am a newbie here and I have some questions about feeding also. My Tobi is 6 months and only eats if I hand feed him. I can not break him of this. I need some help because I am very busy! Also was wondering how much he should eat? This is my first yorkie. I thank you guys so much for the help. I am not sure how to post a new post so this is the only way I knew how to write something. Sorry |

| In my opinion, no dog should be fed jut once a day. I think your pup is still too small and too young to go to twice daily feedings. Twice daily for adults is okay but I see no problem with feeding three times a day forever. Or you could free feed...

My 1st Yorkie tried to pull that one over on me many years ago. Trust me, put Tobi's food down, walk away, and ignore him. Leave it 20 minutes and if he doesn't eat, pick it up. You may want to check his mouth first and see if he is teething. Sometimes when they are teething, it hurts for them to pick up their food. Sheila

| Mine is def teething ... for a while a month ago he ate everything every time I gave it to him but now it's been horrible. I don't know what to do and it makes it harder that I work. On the week days: He eats a handful of pebbles for his first feeding. Then b/c Im not home, he doesn't eat his second feeding. Then I put it down for him when I get home from work and he eats another handful. At this point he's only eaten like 20 kibbles. Then for dinner he'll finish everything or almost. So at the end of the night he's only have about 1/4 cup of food not even (60-70 kibbles). On weekends: Same thing in the morning and for second feeding he'll eat a bit more but he eats the most at night ... again by the end of the day he might have only 1/4 cup of food. Is it too little? I don't know how else to get him to eat normal! |

You could add some warm water and soften his kibble. Or, even add a good quality canned food to his diet, so that you know he is getting enough to eat. I bought my girls some timed food dishes and I keep little frozen ice packs inside to keep the food from spoiling, if I know we will be away at mealtime. I'll look up a link for them. Sheila

| This is the link for timed, automatic feeders. Maybe, it would encourage him to eat more. Sheila PetSafe PF2-19 2-Meal Pet Feeder |

| Thanks so much, I am going to order that! I think it solves my "feeding time" issue ... just not the amount Charlie eats. I do already mix my food with wet food which he loves - he's just not an eater at all. |

I wonder if Charlie is as picky as Kia. She refuses to eat from a bag of food after it has been opened 30 days, so I changed to 3# bags of food. It has to smell wonderful to her! Sheila
