no yorkie (and no dog in my opinion) should only be fed once a day. Twice a day is recommended - morning and evening.
I would offer him the same amount total but divide it into two meals instead of three. He should be fine at his age with two meals a day. So if the food you're feeding recommends for ex. 1/2 cup total a day, offer him 1/4 cup in the morning and 1/4 cup in the evening.
