| What age to start Petzlife? Okay, so I want to keep Mahina's teeth nice and white and try to prevent any dental issues and of course to save me some money. I just want to know what age can I start using Petzlife? I've only brushed her teeth a few times, I really need to get better with this. I'm thinking of starting a morning/night routine. I've searched the forums, but I can't find anything about starting age. She's 6.5 months old now. All or most of her baby teeth are out... there may be one or two molars but I highly doubt it.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I used to think Petzlife was okay - but not anymore. It contains too much alcohol and there have been some very concerning stories from those using it. I'd recommened ProDen's Plaque Off. Hokulea is using it on both her babies and is seeing great results.

| I haven't heard of any concern and have been using this product for a while. Can you tell me what you heard?

| Petzlife is safe to use on puppies. You can (and should) start using it now. Some people are concerned since it is preserved with grain alchohol, but it is such a minimal amount, I still have no doubt it's completely safe. I've used it for a year with no problems. Just clean teeth. |

| Hi, I'm in the very same boat. I've been playing with Otis' teeth and mouth ever since we got him at 4.5 mos. He is now just 6 mos and he allows me to touch and rub his teeth and gums, but he still has puppy teeth. One came out in my hand two weeks ago, but others are still there. How old are they when they are all out and the perm. teeth are there? I also want to know the best oral product to use. I am concerned about alcohol content and wondered if it poses a health threat. Otis had a very difficult beginning, but is much healthier and stronger now. YEA! He looks very much like the picture of your Yorkie. Would love to compare notes on our Yorkies if you like, since they are so close in age. Thanks, JOYFUL |

| I've heard of the controversy over the grain alcohol while reading through petzlife threads. I don't think it's enough for me to be concerned about. I'm only going to use it once or twice a week, but brushing at least everyday. Of course if I see any changes in her I'll stop using the Petzlife, I've already bought it and I don't want to throw it away without trying it myself. Glad to see I can start using it now.

Mahina started losing her teeth around 5 months and finished (I hope, there might be one or two molars) about a week ago, she's 6.5 months now. When they are all out depends on the dog itself. Some never lose teeth and end up having a double row, which all the baby teeth then need to be removed or else it can cause dental issues. It's something you should speak to your vet about and they can do it while he's under for a neuter... if you were planning one. There's all kinds of things you could chose from for her teeth. If you want to know more about Petzlife and why some people like it and others don't just use the search option here and search "Petzlife" and you can read everything and make your decision.

There is a big debate over this. Grain alcohol is the main ingredient besides water. Alcohol is used to bring out the effects of ingredients in some products but in this particular one, it seems that the content is way too high. I have heard of stomach upset but nothing serious. TLC's board certified animal dentist told her that with the amount of alcohol, it would be possible to make a small dog drunk I guess. The thread is here somewhere. Obviously it is dose dependent but some of us just aren't comfortable giving an alcohol-based product.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Some people were using Petzlife as toothpaste, and using way more that the product advises. The Petzlife is said to soften the tartar while you brush it away at a later date. Just a very small amount is needed, however, if you are globing it on a toothbrush, a dog could possibly swallow too much. Just dab a little on your finger, and the spray is even easier. As far as when you should start using it, I think around 7 months of age is good, because they will lose their baby teeth anyway. Twice a week is all you need to use it if you are using it as a preventative. For adult dogs that already have a bad case of tartar, the manufacture recommends daily use, but this is still much safer than the anesthesia, needed for a dental cleaning.

Mahina has lost all her teeth, I'm assuming since I have about 14 of them ( didn't get to keep the tiny front ones though ) and I checked her mouth yesterday and all her teeth are BIG! LOL I know for sure all her front teeth are adult teeth, unsure about the back ones. I'll know for sure when she gets spayed on the 12th. I was thinking I would do it once a week... do you think twice a week would be better?

| Just trying to educate myself.... What is ProDen's Plaque Off and where do you buy it? (Just had my furbaby's teeth cleaned yesterday and would like to keep them that way, if possible.)
