| My yorkie won't play with humans :( Hello all I am new here and have my baby boy Dalton about a month now. I got him when he was 16wks old and he is just at 4lbs. All he does is lay around and sleep allllllll day. I try to get him to play and he doesn't want to get up and he will NOT play with us. He will get up if I get off the couch and watch where I go or follow me everywhere but isn't playfull with me. If I put him outside to go to the bathroom he runs and can't wait to play with my other baby girl (yorkie/poodle)Molly. He is used to his surroundings now and I just want to watch him play and play with him he doesn't run for me or anything. But when he sees my sitting on the couch he is right there trying to get up there to lay with me. Any suggestions on how to get him to play???? Is he just lazy lol and not gonna ever play?? Thanks for any info amber |

| welcome to YT! Have you spoken to your vet about how much he is sleeping? I would want to rule out anything medically. Puppies sleep a lot, but it is also normal to be full of energy. What type of toys have you bought? Small plush squeaker toys can catch their attn. or very small balls that they can actual pick up. Also, teething toys for a young pup can be helpful. The other thing is to play, they love you to be at their level- laying on the floor is great

| Yes I have talked to the vet he said as long as he is playing with the other dog that he is fine and just doesn't want to play with me. I have bought squeaky toys and balls and little bones and reg stuffed animals and he doesn't care about any of them. I sit on the floor and lay on the floor and nothing. He doesn't give kisses or run around the house exploring he is just happy laying on the couch cuddled up and sleeping. The only time he shows any excitement from me is in the morning when I take him out of his crate to put him outside I don't know if he will ever play lol. Thanks for any more ideas. amber

| If your yorkie is healthy, maybe it is just his personality. Some dogs are more laid back and independant than others. Some are more cuddly than others. Just to share, mine was not cuddly when he was a pup but now that he is older, he will come cuddle when he feels like it. As for kisses, he kisses everybody's face but mine and I am the one who feeds him, grooms him, walks him etc. Well he kisses my hands in the morning but that is about it. Have you tried putting treats in your hands and close your palm and let him search for it? Just an idea to get him to come to you and associate you with something good.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Sounds perfectly healthy to me, and just prefers playing with his canine friend. Dogs that have other dogs for companions tend to bond with the other dogs more than the human. This can be a good thing though, and watching them play together is as much fun as playing with them. As he grows older, you'll probably find more games that he enjoys playing with you. Joey loves tug of war, and the monster game, where I chase him, and pretend I'm a monster. My kids loved that game too!

| My little boy was like that. First he made friends with the other dogs, then after several months he made friends with me. He loves to rough-house with the other dogs, but doesn't want to play with me, even now. He does want to be held and talked to, and comes and asks for affection when he wants it. So I just let him be. That is his personality and he is happy that way.

| I am thinking it is probably just his temperment.... SInce you have anther dog, he prefers to play with him right now. But, that can all change once he gets older. My Suzi is complete opposite. She wants to be with her humans all the time, and is a face licker! Any time someone comes over she is very excited and wants all their attention. SHe also rarely barks.. Suzi is 9 months old and so far is a love to people .

| My youngest "Feather" is 1 1/2 yrs and she has never wanted to play with me. She loves to play with her two "brother" but only wants to chew on my hand if I try to play with her. She has always been this way and an I have little hope it will ever change. |

| Welcome fellow TX member! Maybe you could get together with some others from your area to let him play with more pups!
