| PLEASE help 9 week old baby girl & need advice Please reply with info that might be helpful. I am starting to get very worried about my new puppy. Female, 9 weeks old 1.9lbs. She flew in yesterday and I took her to the vet today, only to find out she has ear mites & abnormal eye discharge AND I found a tick on her last night The vet dispensed that topical medicine directly on her skin between her shoulder blades, but tonight her ears are still itching pretty bad. I cleaned them with Q-tips soaked in baby oil, but the after hours animal hospital said since she is so little I should not drop any sort of oil in her ears, which i had read to do so on the internet. Anyway she is eating, SOME. Playing, SOME & going to the bathroom SOME. She pees A LOT- little drops EVERYWHERE & CONSTANTLY!! When I go to clean one spot she's already peeing in the next Anyway, my biggest question is if her behavior is healthy and ok. She is sleeping a lot. I would guess her sleeping to play ration is about 70%-30%. Maybe 60%-40%. But she sometimes seems a little droopy or sad. I realize she is probably overwhelmed with the big transition. But whats a good time frame to expect to see her TRUE personality? It may be that she is just a very calm and timid puppy. ANY help or info would really be appreciated. I am just concerned about her. Thank you. |

| Aww bless her little heart. She has to be scared and she is young, we keep our pups until at least 12 weeks of age. I would imagine having earmites and eye discharge *the discharge could be from getting chilled in the flight* and ear mites have to be uncomfortable for her. She has to be confused and very frightened. Pups sleep a lot. But be sure she eats well, you don't want her blood sugar dropping on her. Keep her warm and away from drafts. Best of luck with her. What does she weigh? Deana Prestigeous Yorkies |

| What drug did the vet put between her shoulders? Did they give you anything for her ears? If it is an infection or mites, it needs to be treated. What is up with her eyes? Did she get diagnosed? If she is peeing every 20-30 minutes that "could" be normal but every 5-10 is not because she is too young to be marking.

| Thank you both for your concern & help. She weighed 1.9 lbs today. And he did give her eye drops. Which after just 2 applications today already seem so much better. I don't recall the medicine he applied for ticks & fleas my receipt says revolution Mauve 3 pack?? And yes she does pee, like for real, a little puddle when expected ie: after naps, play, etc. But the drops everywhere and constantly are just kind of as she follows us around the apt. I don't want to keep her in her crate while we are able to watch her as I feel so bad since she's so little and not 100% healthy. Any feedback appreciated. |

| And no that did not give any med to place specifically in her ears. I called the animal hospital about an hour ago to let them know she is still scratching her ears a lot And they just said have to wait it out and let the medicine run it's course. Call monday if she's not any better. |

Senior Yorkie Talker | You might ask the vet to check her urine for a UTI. Also you might look at her hair down there and see if it's matted or really long, you may need to trim it...maybe some drops are still in the hair after she's doing going piddle and when she follows you they shake off?? When Gwen was about 9 weeks old she'd play but as soon as she was in someone's arms she was out like a light, and now she's 19 weeks old and she's like a 2 years old, just crazy running around playing and then she gets super cranky and irritable and you pick her up and ignore her attempts to fight your hands and she passes out basically b/c she's been fighting sleep. I found that it helped to mix a little wet food into her kibble to get her to eat it, you can warm it in the microwave, just a bit, not too hot...and it makes the smell much more potent and they just dig in like no one's ever fed them before. I just used a bit of my other dogs' canned food with gravy on my girl and she went ga-ga for it, but if she's your only one you might try like the canned puppy food you can get at petsmart or the high quality from anywhere even and just give mostly kibble with a little warm yummy smelling (to her at least) wet food in it..but just use a little bit of kibble with it b/c you'll want to toss out what she doesn't eat so it won't attract bugs or anything like that.

| They must have used Revolution. That could help control ear mites but an in-the-ear drug would probably be better. I am seeing that one of those drugs is 12 weeks and up though. There has got to be something they can do. Dripping urine everywhere is not normal. I'd have her checked for a UTI unless maybe she is so young that she doesn't have any bladder control?

| I'd definately take her back to the vet about the peeing probelm. It could be an UTI or submissive peeing. Sometimes a dog/puppy will do that when overly excited /nervous. However, other possible causes need to be ruled out first. Pee Pads work very well for little ones who are inside most of the time. Since yours is so young and tiny, she really ought to be kept indoors, untill she has had all of her vaccinations. Her ears and eyes are uncomfortable for her, and there may be other health conditions going on too. This can add to why she is not exactly herself. I brought my Suzi home when she was 9 weeks old. She was very scared for only half A day. then she started getting comfortable. your baby needs lots of attention right now, and love. She ought to be fine once she starts to feel better.

| I am sorry to hear about your darling baby not being too good right now. check for infection please.. I am really amazed when a breeder ships a baby at such a young age.. I got maravilhosa at 8 weeks and that was far too young..but she was healthy.. Please keep us updated.. you must be so worried, and being so young she is probably at a loss as to what is happening with her.. hugs to you and hope all is ok very quickly for you both.. anne |

| Awww...poor girl. I cannot even imagine someone who would ship a 9 wk old dog that was clearly not in the best condition. Not to mention that she was too young to be separated from the mom/litter--as mentioned, most agree 12 weeks is a better age. I would think that her young age is definately a huge factor with the problems you are having with her. Be very sure to monitor her VERY closely and make sure she is eating. |

| Caylee has ear mites as well, but she also had a yeast infection in her ears. They applied Revolution on her back, which is suppose to help w/the ear mites and from what I've read it could take quite a while for them to be gone. The antibotic they gave her for the yeast runs out today, but I've noticed her still scratching at one ear, I'm hoping she gets some relief soon!

First - congratulations on your new puppy - 2nd - that breeder you used needs to know about all this... and no offense but no puppy should be flown anywhere that isn't healthy....I can't wrap my mind around the people who are selling puppies and don't care a bit about their health - (meaning who ever shipped her to you) - not you. the peeing isn't normal for any dog and I'd def get that checked out - Poor thing - | |
