| Scratching...but why??? My 4 month old yorkie was scratching/biting her hind leg and tail. When I checked I didn't see anything. She was scratching earlier today 5times at diffrent instances around 30 seconds per episode. I don;t know what's wrong with her. Could it be allergies or anything? I started giving her Nature's Variety Duck and Turkey Meal for all life stages just today. I only gave 2pcs. per meal which was 3x a day just to try start the transition. Today I also gave her .3ml of Vitamin C. it was prescribed by the vet. Yesterday, I gave her a small amount of Troy Nutripet because she is very picky with her food. I had to mix boiled chicken liver to her current kibble so that she would eat it. If you have any idea regarding the matter, please reply. thanks! P.S. her behavior the whole day: she sleeps for an hour, wakes up, plays vigorously for 1.5 hrs, then sleeps again for an hour or so, then wakes up and play for an hour or so, then sleeps again, and so on and so forth. But at night time she sleeps longer hours simoultaneously with me, but she wakes me up earlier than I should be. She sleeps a lot from time to time but is very active when she's awake. I guess this is normal for a puppy? |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | You have her on a wonderful food ! I'd be careful w/ organ meats, at first, as they can cause some diarrhea if given too many. Otherwise, "real" food is wonderful (I feed raw, actually). As far as the itching, it's tough to say. You'd want to check all over for fleas or any skin issues. If it continues, I'd really get her in to the vet asap for a skin scraping - which is easy to do and pretty cheap. Puppies do sleep a lot, so that sounds normal too. CONGRATS on your new baby, she sounds wonderful!

| i have the same issue w/ my puppy. kenji always scratches. i brought it up to the breeder, she said it might be his diet. i went to the vet and he said puppies just have dry skin but he didn't recommend anything. i thought it would go away, but he still scratches. do you think i should suggest skin scraping to the vet? |

| Thank you, she is really wonderful! i really don't see any rashes or fleas on her. I hope her occasional scratching is nothing serious. I brought her to the vet the other day for general check up and eveything seemed fine, just vitamin C was prescribed. The chicken liver was suggested by the breeder when i got her last week. I guess that's what the breeder mixes to her kibble when she doesn't eat. So far no diarrhea with my new baby. She is quite active and very playful so I guess she's just fine. I think i'm just a little paranoid coz of her little size Btw, does anyone know if Nature's Variety Duck Meal and Turkey Meal for all life stages known to cause allergies on puppies/dogs? |

| I have an itchy boy too. He has hay fever, but he's also allergic to flea bites. If he gets one, he scratches for 3 weeks. Is she on a flea treatment? After you've completely ruled out flea's you may want to look into hayfever or other environmental allergies. Sounds like the food isn't an issue. Good Luck! I hate it when they are itchy!
