| Food rotation? I currently feed Nature's Variety raw medallions, but I was looking at their website and noticed that they recommend rotating between the different types of food. The info can be found here. Do you any of you feed your babies more than one type of food (raw, kibble, can)? If so, how often to do you rotate between the different types of food? I've been alternating between different flavours so that he gets different sources of protein, but I never thought about alternating between raw/kibble/can. Is this a good thing to do, or is it better for them to stick with just one? The only thing I'm worried about is that it might upset their tummy or cause diaherrea?

| i don't see anything wrong with rotating. You obviously know yo ucan't feed raw and kibble in the same day but maybe do one month one thing and something else the next. Since yo uwould be using a high quality kibble (assuming) or canned there should be no issues with diarrhea. |

| I had the same questions. Does anyone else rotate between types of food? How often do you rotate? What about upset tummies? NV's website says foods can be rotated daily, weekly or montly - do you agree? Mine love the NV raw/canned and I don't want them to become picky with kibble, which I feed the most. But, I don't want them to get bored with it either. So many decisions...... |

| Rotating between foods is a great idea because your dog will be less likely to develop allergies. It's the constant exposure that cause the body to build up antibodies against certain ingredients. Before Lady had elevated liver values from years of seizure medications and had to go on a low protein diet, I fed her Natures Variety Prairie. I rotated through the canned constantly. Every time I opened a new can it was a different flavor. I bought a different kibble each time I ran out. Lady never had any digestive problems with rotation. I think as long as you stick with the same brand you won't have a problem. |

| I free feed a small amount of NV Instinct Salmon and use the raw medallions in the evening as dinner, if you will. I use all types of the medallions and if I run out of time in the evening or forget to defrost enough I also use NV canned. My dogs love it and they have both in the same day with no problems.

It's perfectly safe to feed a rotation diet between can, kibble and raw. I have concerns about changing the protein sources frequently as I would hate to develop sensitivities to certain proteins and then if allergies develop, having nothing to fall back on.... JMO.

I was wondering if that is true for all brands or just the NV brand that says they are specifically made to rotate ? I was thinking of doing rotation with Blue buffalo Wilderness ( because I can find it locally)and using the different canned varieties in that line to rotate with, but I don't know if you can with their brand.. I tried calling but no one ever answers the phone !

With human food allergies you aren't supposed to eat the same thing twice in a five day period.

A sensitive tummy would make it more difficult. If you could find even a few of foods he can tolerate, just rotate back and forth through them. When I fed Lady Nature Variety Prairie, I alternated between the two kibbles with odd proteins, venison and salmon. They both had different carb sources, too. A large can would last close to a week and I opened a different variety each time, again, the odd protein sources like rabbit, duck and venison. Lady did really well this way.
