| Daisy is just over 3 lbs, so that may be why they want her to stay over night. I've been reading the posts on YT, and I've seen some concern over the type of anesthesia used. What kind is "good" or best for small dogs? |

About the anesthesia, what does your vet use? Isoflurane or sevoflurane (they are gas) should be used for maintenance. Usually something is injected or given via IV for induction. Propofol and a few others are good. No Iso or Sevo, no surgery in my opinion. She should have her surgery on a heated surface. Toy breeds lose body heat very quickly. Pain meds should be given unless an underlying medical condition makes them very dangerous. preop blood work is the best way to go.

| I've never had any of my females nor any fosters females having to stay overnight. I drop them off between 7 & 9 and pick them up at 5. They are always alert and feeling great and eating like pigs when they get home. May depend on the Vet. as to what they use to put them under. I would never leave one of mine after any surgery overnight if there was not someone to take care of them. I wouldn't even use a Vet. for any reason, that would do such a thing.

| I just received the same news from my vet telling me we need to leave Jackamo overnight. Wasn't too sure about it, but I guess its normal. Out of curiousity how much did you guys pay to get your girl spayed, also did any of you get a MicroChip Identification chip inserted? |

| I've already talked to our vet about when Abby is spayed and he has agreed to let her come home with me that evening as long as she's not having any complications. I wouldn't take her to our regular vet to be spayed if he hadn't agreed to it. Hubby said no way she was staying either. If there's nobody there at night to check on them, I think it's silly for them to stay, even dangerous.

| Daisy was scheduled to be spayed yesterday, but they did not do it. Her kidney levels were off. They are going to recheck them next week. Does anyone know what that means? |

| Donating YT 30K Club Member | Sorry to hear that. I know they do the bun to make sure they can withstand the anesthesia and clear it out of their systems. Maybe she is a bit dehydrated and the kidney function is off. Hopefully she will be just fine.

| Baxter is going in the morning to be neutered and they want him to stay over night. The thought of him being in that kennel all by himself really worries me. I need to ask if someone will be there with him. If not, he'll be better off with me. He sleeps with me.

| I think its crazy that any vet wants to keep them overnight for a spay or neuter. Ive had all 5 of the mine spayed and neutered and they didnt need to stay overnight. I just made a bed on the living room floor for us and thats where we slept and they did fine. They really dont feel like playing right after so they arent gonna be running around. I think they recover best where they are most comfortable and nobody will take as good of care of your babies as you would. Ive always asked for pain meds too. One of my vets insisted that they didnt need it and they dont hurt but I insisted on it because they do hurt. Just my 2 cents |

![]() When vets say things like that I would like to ask if they want a couple of their organs ripped out to see how it feels.

![]() ![]() ![]() Good one! She should have asked if he would like to have a vasectomy without any pain relief! I have managed a vets office for 11 years and we have always sent our surgeries home the same day. We keep nothing overnight because there is no staff there after we close. If it is something more serious we have the owner transport to the ER for 24 hour monitoring. Do not let your babies stay without someone to watch them. Too many things can happen. At least if they are with you you can get them some help. If your vet or staff insists or makes you feel bad for not leaving them there alone go somewhere else. We have kept a few "yard dogs" overnight because the owner had no where to confine them but we made sure everything was ok before we leave. Find out what time of day your vet does surgery. Most do it it first thing in the am so the animals will have plenty of time to wake up before a late afternoon pick-up.

| Our vet keep both male and female overnight and they have staff that live on site but I would not leave Peanut. I took him to another vet for his neuter and he did just fine. My breeder works for a vet's office and she told me not to leave him, that vet's office was for sick animals and they recover much better at home. I am now facing the problem with our new kitten that will need to be neutered in a couple months. I asked the vet on his last check up about the overnight stay and that I don't leave them overnight and he said it is the owners policy and he would check on it for me. I would not leave her overnight if nobody is watching her good luck. |
