There is a risk bringing her home if the vet wants her on an IV and a risk leaving her alone. In my opinion, if you are up with her all night, at least she is being watched. Then if you notice something isn't right you can rush her to an ER vet. Occasionally dogs don't come out of anesthesia very quickly or just react badly to it. If they are still very sleepy when the vet and techs leave for the day, who is going to make sure she is at least staying stable? If she is small, it would be wise to make sure her sugar is staying up by watching symptoms because they may not let her eat til the next day. If nobody is there, she can't be watched. If they put an IV in with sugar to be safe, she is unattended with it. That, in my opinion, is not at all safe. A few animals will rip their IVs out. Rarely incisions can split open. She would be in big trouble with nobody there to see it happening. Spaying is a very painful surgery. They should give pain meds before leaving but nobody will be there to see if they are still working. If you and your vet think that it is important that she stays somewhere overnight, she could be transferred to a 24 hour facility.

About the anesthesia, what does your vet use?
Isoflurane or sevoflurane (they are gas) should be used for maintenance. Usually something is injected or given via IV for induction. Propofol and a few others are good. No Iso or Sevo, no surgery in my opinion.

She should have her surgery on a heated surface. Toy breeds lose body heat very quickly.

Pain meds should be given unless an underlying medical condition makes them very dangerous.

preop blood work is the best way to go.
