| my emma has itching and oily skin! HELP I really need some advise. My 15 month old Emma has been having an itching and oily skin problem. She has beautiful silkie hair but she is losing somr of it where she scratches so much on her legs. I am feeding her royal canine food(#28..the one with a yorkie picture on the front) I am using very good shampoo and conditioner.. Though Emma is 15months I have had only since May... I love her so much I need a solution... I thought I see if anyone out there has had a similar experience... Thanks from a frustrated and concerned Mom |

YT Addict | Have you tried any flea products like Frontline or Advantage? Teddy had the same problem. I tried to eliminate a few things. At first, I thought it might be the corn in the Yorkie 28 Royal Canin. (I feed him that as well). Some dogs can be allergic to the corn and it can cause itchiness. But before I decided to change his dog food, I put the Frontline on him. In the matter of two days after that, he stopped itching. So try the flea product and if that doesn't stop, then try to switch her food, because it might be an allergy.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Royal Canin cause a LOT of dogs to be itchy. So, first I'd try a new food that doesn't have corn or fillers. Something premium like Natures Variety, Orijen, Wellness Core, Canidae or something. Feed that for about 4-6 weeks and reassess then.

| PS Also check for yeast which causes constant scratching and you can see the irritation especially in their paws. They will chew on their paws, lick also. Good luck! Warmly, Deborah

My little Shadow Donating YT Member | Bella is having the itchies too. We tried switching her to Wellness & tried several treatments since end of January. She would get better & then worse. She was on Frontline Plus. Our Vet now believes she is allergic to flea bites & we switched to Comfortis Flea Med which is a pill. Sometimes, during frequent baths, Frontline Plus is washed from their skin. Comfortis goes directly into their system. I've heard good reports about it & hope it is the answer for Bella. Hope you find the right answer for Emma.

| I had my yorkie in the same food and she had the same problem, scratching and iching all the time and I was giving her that same food royal cain for yorkies and she would scratch all day and I took her to the vet and she was put on meds and she was still scratced all the time, At night I will hold her. Then I was reading this site and lots of people said that royal cain made their dogs skin dry and that day I stop giving it to Fantasia and she is so much better. You may want to change your food. |

| Scooter had skin issues due to his food. He was on Purina One and I have since switched him to Wellness. His skin problems are gone and his coat is so soft! I highly recommend trying a new food. It may be the cause.

| I found a great cream on line to help with the itchy spots that are losing the hair. It's from equinat-USA.com. My girl has the same issues. We haven't found the cause yet but I also would suggest switching foods too. I would stay away from chicken and beef flavors they can cause reactions also. I'm just suggesting this so when you switch you can rule out a couple of culprits at the same time. The cream helps Trixie stop biting and scratching(and has kept her off meds)she's much happier now and I only have to put it on when I see her biting or scratching a particular spot. It also helped her hair to grow back fast. And we also have a greasy girl, maybe skip the conditioner for a while until her skin has calmed down. The skin produces excess oils in reaction to all the scratching thats going. I also was EXTREMELY frustrated it's sad to see them so itchy. But I highly recommend the cream it was short of a miracle for us. It's only $24. and it works. I would post a picture of how bad Trixie got and how far we have come but I can't seem to get the pictures to upload. I'll try again

| Oily Itchy Skin Probably a food allergy but could be caused by other allergens. For relief changing food to something without corn/wheat/chicken/beef is a good start. Wellness is GREAT - for allergies dogs my vet recommends Fish and Potato foods - for some dogs Lamb and Rice works too. To help with the oily itchy skin I bathe with Neutragena T/Gel shampoo - (human shampoo) Nizoral is also a good choice if there is scaling along with the oil. Food allergies often cause yeast - yeast causes the oil and makes them itch. I help take care of some dogs for a toy breed rescue group - mainly the shih tzu's have this problem and that's how we treat it. GOOD LUCK Karen |

| Thank you from Nothwang I have switched Emma tp Nature's Variety Instinct food. It has been 2 weeks and I have noticed that her itching has really lessened. I wanted to eliminate the food issue first. I have been told that it can take 4-6 weeks to be sure if the food is the right choice. So far Emma really likes the food. It has no grain or corn at all. I move on to other suggestions once I am convinced . Thank you so much for the suggestions Have a great weekend...
