| vomiting Hello, I am new today and unfortunately have a post about my 5 year old female vomiting. I read the other similar post but it didn't help. Dezi has always had a "sensitive" stomach and can't eat anything but her dry food and greenies lil bits as tiny treats or she can suffer from diarrhea and/or vomiting. Sometimes it lasts for a day or two but she is on day 4 now. She vomited once a day for two days and has had diarrhea for two more. She has lots of noises coming from her belly that I hear when she climbs onto my shoulder which is where she lays when she doesn't feel good. She is eating now but wasn't yesterday. This happens every few months and current vet says it's irritable bowel. I can accept that and stress seems to bring it on but it takes about 2-3 days after a stressful event for it to appear. She eats Canaday chicken and rice. I gave her boiled hamburger and rice today for the first time and she had more diarrhea a few hours after. Does this sound right? I am changing vets soon and looking forward to a new view. Any help? |

| I always go to either boiled/grilled chicken white meat (no skin) mixed with a little white rice or baby food chicken meat (only meat) mixed with a little white rice. Just give a couple teaspoons full to start. Let that settle and a couple hours later offer a little more. If you are concerned about dehydration, put a little Karo syrup in her water (1 teasp. for a bowl), and you can add just a touch of fat free chicken broth to the chicken/rice mix. I would get a second opinion also. Sounds like you are on your way for that. If it is IBS, the vet should offer you something to give her to stop this when it starts. It can be exhausting for both of you to deal with this every few days. Best wishes.

| pepto? She told me to use Pepto Bismol. I only had caplets and gave her a crumb of one. It seemed to make it worse. She was more uncomfortable than ever before after taking it. |

| Pepto can be used effectively. Sounds like she is really uncomfortable and perhaps more is going on here. Although I know IBS can be very painful during an attack. There are other things that can be given to slow down the bowel action. I'd call your vet and ask for something else. Poor baby. It is unfortunate that these things always seem to flare up on a weekend.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | If she is in quite a bit of actual *pain* with these episodes - it makes me suspect pancreatitis, which can be very painful. Have they tested thoroughly for this?

Also, I don't know for sure but I had heard that Pepto contained asprin and it shouldn't be given to really small dogs. I'm so sorry Dezi is having this issue - I know how it feels to look at your baby and wish you could just make her better

| The dosage for Dezi's size was supposed to be 1 ml. but I only had caplets so I crumbled off a corner. What is the test for pancreatitis? She's had many full blood work ups and one very recent that are always perfect. I have been giving her little teaspoons of applesauce. She loves it and I figured it would give her sugar and not be too rich. Rice and very little hamburger this morning that she ate well (seemed in good spirits, too) came out the rear end about an hour and a half later. I am getting chicken baby food for later. I was afraid to do yogurt because of introducing dairy into the mix. She has had negative effects with acidopholis when I was told to sprinkle it on her food. It created more intestinal "noises" than ever and I think she gets cramps. Sometimes it relieves (or calms) her if I rub her little belly (with my thumb, she is only 2.5 lbs)I have also decided to change food to California Naturals chick n rice when this is settled. It has less fat and protein than what she eats now (but has big kibbles) Thank you all for such great support and thoughtful responses. This is the first time I've ever been in any kind of chat or forum and Yorkies would be the only worthy subject. This is an unbelievable way to connect. To end on a happy subject, I also have a 5 month old female pup, Cassidy, new to our family. She can suck down anything and have no problems. She is more of a bruiser than my worried little Desiree. |

| If the kibble is too big for her when you change foods, put it in the blender and mix it up. It doesn't need to be all powder, but breaking down the size of the kibble may help her be able to eat it.

| I am new to all of this too, however, wondering if it can be allergy related. The vet needs to look into it, so she does not have any more of these eposoides. |

| She just ate chicken baby food and was begging all day to eat. She is in good spirits and no more poop since early this morning but that happens and when she goes, it's a messy pile of yuck. Fingers crossed, I shouldn't have given her the hamburger but I did boil it 3 times and rinsed it at least 5 more. It may have been the reason the normal duration lasted longer. It was suggested and I thought it was a magic meal. Go with my gut next time. Another reason I am changing vets, she doesn't put enough stock in details I give.

| Thank you, I was thinking of that. I also soak the kibble at dinner time and mush it up. I started it when Dezi had some dental work and when she got back to crunching, she held out at dinner time for the soaked food. It must have seemed like something special, and since she is, I do it for her still. Cassidy gets the same but she eats paper, mulch, Qtips, etc...
