| Oh the Iams food.... #1 They do HORRIBLE and UN-NECESSARY testing on animals, very cruel and sad. Just do a Google Search and you'll see #2 Corn #3 By-Products It's just a Crapy Food and Crapy Company Dog food was created as a convience, not b/c it's better or healthy for dogs, it is a money making business, so with that in mind, if you are going to feed dog food, try to get a *better brand* than the ones you can buy at any old store. Try to go with ones that use human grade or organic, etc.... |

| I have bought all kinds of premium foods and after a while mine will not eat them. Ex: Natures Variety, Natural Balance, Solid Gold, Raw Natures Variety, Canidae, etc. They are eating Royal Canine Yorkshire Terrier now. They like it and are doing fine on it. The corn is the only ingredient that some (dogs and people) have a problem with, but mine are doing good and they actually eat it past buying more than 1 bag. Wellness and Inova are not available for me and I am sure other members have trouble locating it also in the area they live in. I don't feel that Royal Canine is that bad of a food. Just my opinion.

| As far as Eukanuba food is concerned, it's not the worst but by far not the best. Some feed it and swear by the results, some don't. You have to determine what is the best match for your individual dogs. There is a sticky at the top of this section with links to some of the more preferable commerical food manufacturers--many will send you samples and coupons to try. As far as the Iams company, many don't support the company (at least in in the form of buying their food) because of their involvement several years back w/ cruel animal testing. Iams didn't conduct the research themselves, but hired an outside company to perform testing with the products they manufacture--*some* testing is required, but NOT in the manner in which the company carried it out. |

| Donating YT 1000 Club Member | I've asked this question before w/o an answer I was always under the impression that home cooked food was bad for dogs, for their teeth and for the seasonings. It will be much easier for me to cook for Max as long as he eats it, he in on Royal Canin now and so far is the one he likes the best, this will be our 3rd. bag and he still eats it, but I'm sure he will get bored after a while.

Mine started out on Eukanuba, then I went to Innova which was too rich for their tummies to digest properly, then I had to do a prescription diet for about 2 bags, then switched to Natural Balance (duck and potato) b/c of tummy troubles we did a single source protein diet, then I did Wellness senior for weight issues, tried a bag of Merrick and then over to Canidae, switched to homecooking for a few months, and then went to Nature's Variety RAW frozen, then ventured to a few other RAW frozen brands, then did a BAT (Bile Acid Test) on my two and found out that they have liver issues (MVD) - so we are back to a Home Cooked, Low but Quality Protein diet..... So I know the roller coaster of different foods. IF mine didn't have liver issues (low protein diets) I would have them on the RAW food diet. Home Cooked is my second choice, and if I had to do a Kibble, I did like the Canidae company.... Best of Luck

Kibble = real food processed almost to the point of no longer being food So, homecooked food is far superior to kibble. Kibble is just real food (or "human food" - whatever you want to call it) that is processed, all the nutrients taken out, and then a bunch of additives thrown back in to replace the missing nutrients. Weird huh? So, anytime you can feed something LESS processed - it's a good thing. Canned dog food is better than kibble. Homecooked is better than canned. And, in my book, Raw is best of all. I feed Natures Variety Raw Frozen Medallions - my boys have never been healthier.

I was in Petsmart and found a new dry puppy food, it goes all the way up to adults. Has anyone ever heard Of by nature? This one has No Corn, No Wheat, and No soy. It has two meat soruces, whole grains and natural fiber, fruits, vegetabels, and spices, Flaxseed. This particular brand was a little pricey, 6lbs for $11.00. However, It sounds like a nutritious brand. I just hope Suzi will like it.
