| thanks for all the replies... i'm hoping i can get the baby teeth to fall out on their own, but i doubt it'll happen. i tried wiggling them to see if they were loose even a tiny bit, but i don't feel like they're budging. if baby teeth don't have roots, they sure are holding on for dear life! lol. i'm more upset that Kash might have to go under twice than i am about the extra expense. i guess i got him neutered faster than his adult teeth could come in! grr... i was so nervous about his neuter, i can't imagine making him go through anesthesia again. poor baby. i feel guilty to put him through so much even if it's for his own good. his two front teeth are already coming in wrong since the baby teeth are still there. i think his back teeth are okay for now. i'll keep him chewing on things. how long should i wait to see if the teeth fall out? it's only been a month since he got neutered, so i want to give him some time... he's 6 months old, and 3 lbs.

| Bandit got neutered at a very young age, and his baby teeth did not fall out till he was almost 10 months old! He had the same problem, most of the other teeth fell except for his top front two teeth. Eventually, his breath was so rancid, that he had to get them pulled. I am not going to lie, he was in pain, and moaning and crying when I picked him up from the vet, but they gave him pain meds, and within a day or 2 he was back to his normal self. Now (1 month later), he is perfect, no bad breath, teeth are nice and clean, etc. I know you will be scared for them, but it is something you have to do, believe me, he will be fine afterwards, and will thank you later on in life for no further teeth problems

Thank you so much for posting this!!! I'm having the same dilema. Cassiopia is currently 5 months old and I have an appt scheduled in July to have her spayed, teeth pulled, and microchipped (at that time she'll be a little over 6 months old). My concern is that she currently has not lost any of her baby teeth and I've been checking on a daily basis to see if any of her adult teeth has grown out...none so far. I spoke to another vet last week, since I had to bring the family cat in...and I mentioned to her about Cassi. She recommended that I delay the spay until Cassi's adult teeth has grown out, that way she doesn't have to go under twice. So I'm debating whether I should delay her surgery until her adult teeth comes in? I would hate to put her under 2x! BTW, I was thinking about switching vets, although the cat's vet is really nice and caring...however she tends to be on the clumsy side. So I'm little weary with having her perform the surgery on lil' Cassi (she's only 2.3 lbs right now). | |

| There are lots of articles about toys breeds and their tendancy to retain some baby teeth. You could google it. |

| Our little boy Cole had 2 baby 'fangs' pulled and I had him chipped and his nails trimmed for $179.00 ... He's only 1 so at least we didn't have to pay for any blood work...Don't they try and pad the bill....Like everyone else, you will pay for any medical stuff done for them and think twice for yourself...lol

You are so welcome!!! As long as there isn't any chance that she would get pregnant (since you want to spay her)....I would wait until her teeth come in. I unfortunately didn't have all of the information that you do otherwise I would have waited. It is too hard on these little pups to go under anesthesia. I had to do it and my pup did fine but it was stressful for both of us and expensive. How has your vet been clumsy? That's a little worriesome, I agree.

| I had to bring my cat in the last few times for blood draw b/c he's diabetic and everytime when she draws blood, she always misses the vein. She always has to stick him twice before finding the vein. One time it took her nearly four tries before finding the vein (poor cat). During one of the visits, I noticed she had a deep slice on her finger (which required 7 stitches) and she said the cause was from doing some carpentry work at home. Another time when I went in she had a really deep scratch on her index finger from another cat. Also another time, she dropped a tube of blood that she collected from my cat...thank goodness the tube didn't crack. In any case, I trust her with providing professional healthcare to my cat...but surgery for 2.3 lb yorkie is a different story. Cassi, goes to another vet near my house. The cat sees the vet near my parent's house. Last edited by cpuff35; 06-12-2008 at 06:38 AM. |

Your concerns make sense to me. And might I add, your puppy is so adorable. What a total sweetheart.
