| Help!!! Allergies, supplements, food oh my!!!! Hi all, Oh this is so very confusing and frustrating. I hope hope hope somebody can help me. The Vet I go to (well, the Vet she hired to help her with her practice) tells me because Cassie is scratching her face she probably has food allergies and to not feed her beef anymore. She gave me a diet for home cooking to feed her but told me she didn't want me to really home cook because she thinks Cassie's not getting enough nutrients in what i feed her, and she wants me to put her on dog food. (She said two of her teeth are loose and she thinks she is not getting enough calcium.) I told her all the bad things about dog food and she like, practically shrieked that Wellness WAS a regulated dog food and has both human grade and pet grade inspectors. She says the food is made with human grade food. She states it is a very good food and she vouches for it and says to feed it to Cassie because she needs more nutirents than I am giving her. I told her I want to home cook and have consulted with some people on YT and she says if I home cook she wants me to put in broccoli, kale, pumpkin and spinich. Okay, cooked some chicken, put in the rice, veggies and chicken in equal proportions. But now she wants me to add the dog food (first she said Wellness canned chicken, now she says Wellness canned Fish.) Also she wants me to give Cassie supplements, concentrated greens and TWO teaspoons of olive oil a day!!!!!! So here is my problem. First- after reading all the stuff about the dog food I am still not convinced its the best way to go. Now after I added the concentrated greens, supplements, and olive or flax oil to the food along with some Wellness dog food, well, Cassie will not eat any of it. Just the food alone, with the Veggies she suggested and the chicken and rice-that she will eat, but after I finish adding all the other stuff-she will not eat. Cassie is between 1.8 and 2.2 lbs full grown. I need to get food down her. Is there any way I can feed the concentrated greens and the BalanceIT vitamin supplements down her other than mixing it with her food? Some liquid I could dissolve it all in and feed it with a syringe? Some liquid she would like? Do anybody else have this problem? Also, she is still itching even with the chicken. She doesn't like when I add the oil to her food either. How do I get the oil into her? she's very picky. I don't know what to do. I asked her about a raw diet and she said Cassie is so far removed from her ancestor wolf connection that she feels her system could not handle raw, and she does not recommend it Gosh I'm confused. What should I do about the itching? The Oil that she will not eat food with, the New diet she wants me to mix everything up in including homecooking, dogfood, supplements, concentrated greens. HELLLP someone-I'm overwhelmed!!! Thanks, Shellie |

| You can mix up Healthy Powder from Dr. Pitcairns book to sprinkle on her food each day, and then buys some salmon gel caps and squeeze one on her food daily as well. Feeding real food is easy and healthy. Ask your Vet. how many hours training has she had on nutrition. You can copy this infomation and give her too: Does Your Dog Food Include Euthanized Dog? | Thanks for your reply Hi yorkiedaze, Thanks for your reply. I printed off some copies of the articales you sent me a link for. I am not listening to her and I am continuing to home feed her, even though she talks like she KNOWS that Wellness is human grade food, from personal experience. I did buy a can or two just to have in the house because she was making me feel so guilty. She told me two of Cassie's teeth were loose because of home feeding. I explained that Cassie was 14 months old and I just got her two months ago and only started home feeding about a month to 6 weeks ago, and she said Yorkie's teeth degrade really quickly, implying I was the cause of the loose teeth. I didn't think I had her long enough for that to happen, but she says it is so. Anyway, my concern is adding the supplements to her food, not feeding her dog food which I am not going to do. I made up the recipie as she suggested-a combination of kale, spinach, broccoli, and pumpkin, chicken, and a starch (rice, potatoes, etc.). One third each food group. But Cassie will not eat her food when I add in the supplements, oils and concentrated greens-(this is a powder like the vitamin supplements) to her food, which she loves. I would like to give it to her some other way, disguise the taste. Feed it to her with a syringe-something other than adding it to her food. How can I do this? She is so extremely picky. Also, this Vet says she may have food allergies because she is always scratching around her face. The breeder never had a problem with excessive scratching and She fed her puppy chow her whole life. How do I find out what is going on here? Could it be something else? Maybe not a food allergy but some other allergy? How do I find out? Sorry for the rant, but you are so helpful. Thanks in advance. | I give flaxseed oil to my Yorkies. The recommended dosage that I have is 1 teaspoon twice a day per 25 pounds of weight. My dogs range from 3 to 13 pounds. The smallest ones I give 1/4 teaspoon once a day. You have to watch giving the oil supplements as too much can cause loose stools or diarrhea. I've also been told by a vet to stay away from beef as it is harder to digest. You can add calcium to the diet with yogurt or cottage cheese. Two pounds fully grown is ultra-tiny!! I can only imagine. I understand your concern in giving your baby a nutricious diet that she will eat. |
