Help! He is not eating It's been a week since Moshi Moshi (2 month old Yorkie girl)came to our house. This morning, Jambo threw up (clear, foaming liquid) a few times. I am pretty sure this is from having an empty stomach. He didn't eat a lot of dinner last night and hasn't eaten since. We tried giving him his favorite treats but he turns his head at them as well. He has been taking mild antibiotics for the last week as well that was prescribed by his vet for a mild respiratory/cold issue. He has to be hungry but I don't know what is wrong. I am worried. Could it be that he is a little depressed over Moshi? He is 8 months old and is not that comfortable with other dogs. He is not aggressive but it always a little fearful and hates it when other dogs touch or sniff him. Since Moshi has been with us, she constantly follows him around wanting to play. He just runs from her and jumps on the couch since she is too small to get up their by herself. If he has something, she is quick to get it from him. He doesn't fight back or tries to get it back from her. If she grabs his toy or chew he just backs off. We've been making sure he gets a lot of special attention.

Sounds like your Jambo may be overwhelmed with the new pup. He also was sick when you brought the new one home so that adds to his demeanor. I would be concerned about Moshi getting sick from Jambo so maybe they should be kept from each other, at least until Jambo is well. Even though Jambo is young, the hyperness of a young puppy probably is just too much for him at this time. When mine have an upset stomach, I'll boil some chicken and feed them that with a little rice and broth in it. The rice helps to soak up some of the bile in their stomach. Once he's feeling better, he'll probably cope with Moshi much better but right now it's probably a big aggravation to him. Good luck with everything. As long as you can make them both feel special every day, everything should work itself out.

He hasn't eaten all day and has been throwing up clear liquid all day and won't touch food. I am so worried about him. I took him on a walk late yesterday. He ate some boilded chicken and just a little of his food. He pooped this morning and it looked alright. I feel so bad for him. What could it be?!!!

| Sounds like he is not eating enough to keep the antibiotic from upsetting his stomach. Plain boiled rice, a kernel at a time if you have to feed it to him. And if he will eat chicken (boiled or Gerber's baby food chicken meat) that would be great.

Well what a night! When I got home last evening it was a sad sight. He had been vomitting all day...even water so I rushed him over to emergency. They did x-rays and it looked like there may be an obstruction or some poop roll up in his lower intestines. He is at the vets right now. They took another x-ray and we no longer see anything. Maybe it is passing. So the vet is keeping him until 5pm to put an iv in and get his electrolytes and fluids back to normal. He is also going to give him some barium to see if that helps to flush whatever it could be out. I haven't had any sleep but I hope my baby will be fine.

Here is an update. Jambo has been at the vet the last day and half on IV. The doctor said that it does not appear to be an obstruction in the intestines but his intestines are abnormally distended. He tested for Parvo (Jambo at 8 months old has had all his vaccinations) and it was negative. Doctor thinks it may be coronavirus. Jambo has the symptoms except the diarrhea (only has had diarrhea once in the time I've had him & that was during change in diet). Doctor says that it is likely he got it from Moshi Moshi (little girl I just got exactlyl a week before Jambo exhibited symptoms). He said that the ingestion period is about 7 days so the math works out. I told him that Moshi has had two sets of her vaccinations which included coronavirus but he said that if she had diarrhea (she had diarrhea the first two nights she was with me but I figured it was stress) it is still likely she was the root of the virus. Moshi has been doing great. She is quite piggy and loves to eat and play. Her poop has looked great. I am picking Jambo up from the doctors this afternoon. He has perked up since the last few days and is no longer vomiting but still does not want to eat. I am so worried and this is all so upsetting because we got Moshi for the sake of Jambo and it looks like she made him sick.

I'm so sorry you have to go thru this! It's bad enough to have Jambo be sick, but then when you feel like it's from the other dog you brought in, it makes you feel even worse! I hope Jambo is feeling much better and I'm sure he'll start eating soon and back to himself. Poor little guy. We worry so much over them. I'm sure that being home with you will go a long ways in making him feel a lot better! Let us know how he's doing! All the best!

Sound too familiar I would really watch him. My sister went through this with one of her yorkies and it was an intertinal problem, she wasnt eating, seemed very depressed and kept throwing up. My sister is a vet tech so of course she took her to the hospital and she ended up with 2 surgeries to remove part of the intestine. Apparently it is not uncommon in yorkies. The good part is Sammy Jo is now perfectly fine and you would never know anything was wrong but please watch him and if he's still not eating....go to a different vet. Dogs can be depressed and nervous or shy but when hungry they will all eat. If he's not eating, something is still wrong. Dawn

Well, Jambo had both blood and urine tests run over the weekend because he was still not eating on his own. All came out negative thank goodness. He took a poop last night and has been in better spirits since. He is eating a little here and there. Doctor thinks it is still something viral that probably just needs to run out of his system. He is also playing with Moshi so he definitley has perked up. I took a fresh stoop sample to the doc so maybe we will get some answers. I am praying for a full recovery.
